Sobha developers Ltd. and Federal Bank were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 8.86% and 3.78% along with Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd. and Adani Enterprises Ltd. with an increase of 3.75% and 3.74% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include JP POWER and HCL Tech with a decrease of 15.21% and 4.63% along with JSW ENERGY and Nestle India with a decrease of 3.87% and 3.85% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is down 174.89 points at 12,423.84 while the banking sector is down 103.60 points at 12,180.67 and the realty sector is down 1.38 points at 1,202.12. Facebook to buy WhatsApp for $19 billion

California, Feb 20 (ANI): In a landmark deal that places the world's largest social network closer to the heart of mobile communications, Facebook will buy fast-growing mobile-messaging startup WhatsApp for $19 billion in cash and stock. The transaction involves $4 billion in cash, $12 billion in stock and $3 billion in restricted stock that vests over several years. The WhatsApp deal is worth more than Facebook raised in its own IPO and underscores the social network's determination to win the market for messaging. 2014 Auto Expo ends with hope for boost in automobile sales

Greater Noida, Feb 12 (ANI): The curtains came down on the 12th edition of Auto Expo in Greater Noida with the hope that positivity around the show will spark a revival in demand after a prolonged slump in sales. Automobile giants resorted to different strategies and tactics in order to lure consumers, offered discount packages to boost sales. Car sales fell to 160,289 vehicles last month, as consumers kept a tight lid on spending, hurt by high interest rates and fuel costs in a slowing economy. Sales of passenger vehicles, which include cars and utility vehicles, fell 9.3 percent in January. The Deputy Director General of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Sugato Sen said the taxes imposed on the automobiles resulted in decline of sales in the passenger car segment.

Car sales fall in January, no respite seen: SIAM

New Delhi /Noida, Feb 12 (ANI): Car sales in India fell 7.6 percent in January, the fourth straight month of decline, according to figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), in a market set to fall for the second straight year. Car sales fell to 160,289 vehicles last month, the industry body said, as consumers kept a tight lid on spending, hurt by high interest rates and fuel costs in a slowing economy. Sales have fallen 5.2 percent so far this fiscal year that ends in March. The Deputy Director General of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Sugato Sen, said that the auto industry is hoping that the government may cut factory gate duties when it presents the interim budget while there are no signs of an immediate recovery.
