7th annual Tamchon football tournament attracts many spectators in New Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 29 (ANI): The 7th Annual Tamchon Football tournament, a 15-day carnival of football and cultural extravaganza, was inaugurated on November 16 at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi. A total of 16 teams comprising of players from different northeastern states are participating in the tournament to promote peace, friendship and unity among the youth of the country. The event has been organized under the aegis of Tanghkul Naga Society Delhi with support from various government and private agencies. During the opening day ceremony, young artists from Tripura performed a harvest dance. Donny J from Assam enthralled the audience with his melodious voice. Later, choreography was also performed by Donny, along with his group. The main attraction on the opening day of the tournament was a match between Zeliangrong Football Club (ZFC) and SSPP (FC). Sachin Tendulkar named UNICEF's brand ambassador for South Asia

Mumbai, Nov 29 (ANI): Iconic Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has taken over as UNICEF first brand ambassador for South Asia to support the organisation's work in promoting hygiene and sanitation in the region. The 40-year-old cricketer, who has been involved with the organisation for almost a decade has been named its ambassador for two years on Thursday. Surrounded by high security and mediapersons, Tendulkar - known as 'God of Cricket' trekked his way through the hilly terrain. Delighted by the picturesque surroundings, Tendulkar said he was thrilled to enjoy quality time with his family. Magnus Carlsen becomes world chess champion after defeating Viswanathan Anand

Mumbai boy Prithvi Shaw breaks Indian batting record of highest individual score

Mumbai, Nov 21 (ANI): A school boy in Mumbai was being hailed as the next Sachin Tendulkar after he scored a record 546, while batting in a domestic competition. Prithvi Shaw, who is also the captain of the Under-16 Mumbai team, surpassed the record of Dadabhoy Havewalla, who scored 515 in 1933-34, which was the previous highest by an Indian in any form of registered competitive cricket. Shaw who idolizes Tendulkar said that although he does not believe in copying the batting style of the 'little master', he does admire his honesty. Shaw's current coach, Rajeev Pathak said that people in cricketing circles have already started to take notice of this young boy, while praising his student for showing tremendous patience and skill. World Chess Championship: Viswanathan Anand draws game seven against Magnus Carlsen

Chennai, Nov 19 (ANI): Indian grandmaster and defending champion, Viswanathan Anand was relieved as game seven against challenger Magnus Carlsen ended in a draw at World Chess Championship.
