Delhi HC tells BAI to allow Jwala Gutta to play tournaments

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): The Delhi high court on Thursday asked the Badminton Association of India (BAI) to allow shuttler Jwala Gutta to participate in all tournaments till the disciplinary committee passes its final order. However, despite the intervention by HC, Jwala may still not be able to take part in the Denmark Open as her name has already been withdrawn from the tournament. A BAI committee had recommended a life-ban on the feisty veteran for allegedly trying to stop her Delhi Smashers teammates from playing a match against Banga Beats in the recent Indian Badminton League. Muzaffarnagar riots: Allahabad HC notice to Azam Khan

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): The Allahabad High Court has issued a notice to senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan for allegedly pressing for the release of seven members from the Muslim community named in the murder of two Jats, which triggered the communal backlash in Mazaffarnagar last month claiming at least 48 lives. The court asked Azam Khan to file his counter affidavit within ten days from the receipt of notice. According to reports, the Allahabad High Court also stayed the suspension of an SHO of a police station in Muzaffarnagar where these seven accused were held by the police. The court noted that the allegations leveled against Khan were "serious" and "the chain of incidents show that the matter requires consideration to see the circumstances and to find out whether the same was "in accordance with law" and not "vitiated". Hoshiarpur, Oct 10 (ANI): At least 14 people, including seven women and three children were killed and 40 others injured as a mini bus fell into a ditch in Hoshiarpur city of Punjab. The accident occurred at 10:30 pm on Wednesday. Senior Superintendent of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill confirmed about the incident on Thursday. The passengers were returning after visiting a Hindu religious site in Himachal Pradesh. Mumbai, Oct 10 (ANI): Noted Telugu film actor Srihari, who was recently seen in "Thoofan", Telugu version of "Zanjeer", passed away at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. The actor was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday following illness and died around 5 PM. However, the cause of his death is not known yet. Srihari, who had been suffering from a liver ailment for some time, complained of giddiness during the shooting of 'Rambo Rajkumar' being directed by Prabhu Deva with Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. A team of police officials entered Reddy's venue of fast in Hyderabad, demolished barricades set up by the supporters and lifted him, putting him into an ambulance. Agra, Oct 10 (ANI): This group of 64 students from Mizoram has come to Agra to improve their Hindi at the Kendriya Hindi Sansthan. The institution is an autonomous apex organization, run by the Union Ministry of Human Resource development, and it works for the development of Hindi language in the country. Established in the year 1980, it helps students from across the country hone their skills in the language. Students from the northeastern states, where Hindi isn’t widely spoken, come to the institute every year to sharpen their language skills. The 3-week-long programme is aimed at those students and teachers who already know the language, but want to improve their command over it. The institute also provides food and accommodation to the students for free. After the course, the students can find employment opportunities in various sectors like banks, teaching and government offices. The teachers from the institute also visit regional branches to familiarize the students in non-Hindi speaking regions, with the language. Oct 10, 2013
