Bring immediate stay order on Gauhati HC ruling to escape embarrassment: Former CBI Director

New Delhi, Nov 08 (ANI): Talking about the Gauhati High Court ruling, Former CBI Director Joginder Singh said that the government should bring immediate stay on the order in order to escape embarrassment in front of visiting foreign delegates. Gauhati High Court passed an order that says that the Central Bureau of Investigation is 'unconstitutional' and does not have powers to investigate crimes. Singh also said that the CBI has no right under the law but the final ruling will be of the Supreme Court which had assigned the agency some major scam cases in the past. Nov 8, 2013

Jayalalitha declares world chess championship open

Chennai, Nov 08 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha declared the world chess championship open, setting the stage for a clash between chess titans. India's defending world champion, Vishwanathan Anand would take on the Norwegian Challenger Magnus Carlsen, from Saturday. This 12-match series was being organized by FIDE, the world chess federation. Jayalalitha said that an amount of 29 crore rupees has been allotted for the championship. The 43-year-old Indian chess ace, Anand, had dominated the sports and remained a world champion since 2007. 24-year-old Carlsen, on the other hand, was the youngest player to top the world rankings, when he was just 19. Kuwait's PM on 4-day visit to India

New Delhi, Nov 08 (ANI): Initiating the very first visit by a Kuwaiti head of government in 10 years, the country's Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah arrived in New Delhi on a four-day state visit. The Kuwaiti prime minister was received at the airport by Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed on Thursday. Jaber is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers, senior officials and captains of the industry. Irom Sharmila faced death threats for relationship with foreigner

Imphal, Nov 08 (ANI): Just three days after the iron lady of Manipur, Irom Sharmila's fast-unto-death entered its 14th year, the 41-year-old has hit out at people within her own organisation, the Just Peace Foundation, saying they threatened her with 'honour' killing over her relationship with a foreigner. Sharmila, on Thursday accused those close to her of sending her death threats and "acting like the Taliban" over her love for Desmond Cutinho, a social worker and journalist of British origin.
