Sankararaman murder case: Kanchi Sankaracharya, 22 others acquitted

Puducherry, Nov 27 (ANI): All the accused in the Sankararaman murder case including Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati have been acquitted by the Puducherry principal and district sessions court on Wednesday. The trial ran for over nine years. The court acquitted all the accused saying the complainant failed to support the prosecution. Sankararaman, the manager of the Varadarajaperumal temple in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, was allegedly murdered on September 3, 2004, in the temple premises. Sankararaman had allegedly written several letters to publications claiming that the Kanchi mutt had deteriorated ever since Jayendra Saraswati had taken over. At least six killed in blasts near Kudankulam

Kudankulam, Nov 27 (ANI): Two powerful country-made bombs exploded in coastal village of Idinthakarai near Kudankulam nuclear power plant of Tamil Nadu killing at least 6 persons and critically injuring three others. The bombs were allegedly stocked by some villagers following a clash with another group. Three houses caved in due to the impact of the explosion. Police said that death toll could rise, as some of the people were feared to be trapped under the debris. Police and rescue teams reached the spot and rushed the injured to nearby hospital. According to reports, the blasts took place when bombs exploded accidentally while they were being assembled at a house in Idinthakarai village. Pak PM breaks ground on nation's largest nuclear power project

Karachi, Nov 27 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif ceremonially broke ground on a $9.59 billion nuclear power complex designed to generate 2200 MW of electricity, state media reported. Pakistan is set to fix the country's ailing energy sector in three years with this plant. P Chidambaram calls for stern action against service tax evaders

Kolkata, Nov 27 (ANI): Finance Minister P Chidambaram called for stern action against service tax evaders as the country’s tax scheme had met with poor response. Addressing an awareness camp on Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme (VCES) in Kolkata on Tuesday, Chidambaram warned the defaulters to pay their taxes or else be ready to face legal action. The finance minister highlighted that the service tax amnesty scheme launched by his ministry has sought poor response so far.
