Farmers in Manipur get training in sericulture to boost silk production

Imphal, June 29 (ANI): To give a boost to quality silk production, a 5-day long Beneficiary Empowerment Training Programme was recently organized by the Research Extension Centre of Central Silk Board at Khuman Lampak in Imphal. The participants were given theoretical training followed by field exposure visits to Changangei and Mantripukhr. Under the programme, eight batches, comprising of 20 participants each will be given training in Ukhrul and Churachandpur districts this year. The organizers aim to enhance the production from 1.5 metric tons to 14 metric tons in silk producing Ukhrul and Churachandpur district of Manipur. Manipur has been the largest producer of Oak-Tasar Silk in the country and second largest silk producing state in the Northeast region. Jun 29, 2014

Hospitals keep fingers crossed struggling to save GAIL blast victims

East Godavari, June 28 (ANI): Hospital staff worked tirelessly round the clock and kept fingers crossed on Saturday to save the lives of the burnt victims of the GAIL gas pipeline blast in Andhra Pradesh. Fourteen people were killed and 20 injured on Friday in a fire that broke out on a stretch of pipeline running through East Godavari district, engulfing buildings and burning victims to death. The Apollo hospital in Kakinada has received eight of the burn victims, out of which five suffer 100 per cent burns and their survival chances are slim. Bhavnagar, June 28 (ANI): Five labourers were killed and seven others injured in a gas leak and explosion at Alang ship recycling yard in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat on Saturday. The incident took place when the workers were breaking a ship on plot number 140 of the Alang recycling yard. The injured are shifted to nearby hospital, though a relative of the victim said that the authorities didn’t provide any help whatsoever.
