India cancels AgustaWestland deal; defence expert says it was predictable

New Delhi, Jan 1 (ANI): India on Wednesday cancelled its Rs 3,600 crore deal with Anglo-Italian firm AgustaWestland for supply of 12 VVIP choppers to the Air Force in view of charges that kickbacks to the tune of Rs 360 crore were paid in it. Speaking on the same, Defence Expert, Uday Bhaskar on Wednesday said that with the kind of investigation that has been carried out, it was almost predictable that it will be cancelled. India hopes for early resolution of legal tussle of GMR group with Maldivian government

New Delhi, Jan 1 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs has hoped for a resolution of issues between infrastructure firm, GMR and Maldivian government, with both at loggerheads over the Male airport issue. The new President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom would visit India from January 01 to 04. President Gayoom would be accompanied by a high level delegation. GMR, a subsidiary of Bangalore-based GMR Infrastructure limited has been given seven days to leave the Indian Ocean island chain. In 2012, Maldives cancelled its biggest foreign investment project, a $511 million deal with Indian firm GMR Group to develop its international airport, raising questions over the future of foreign investment in the islands renowned for luxury resorts. MEA spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin said that it was important for both GMR and the government of Maldives to resolve their issues. India awaits response from US over diplomatic spat

New Delhi, Jan 1 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs has stated that response from the US over dropping of criminal charges against Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragde was awaited but owing to the holiday season, things were delayed. MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that the diplomatic channels in the United States as well as in India were trying to secure full diplomatic immunity for Khobragade by shifting her to its UN mission in New York, although such a move needs the US State Department approval. Women supporters of Awami League protest against Khalida Zia

Dhaka, Jan 1 (ANI): Women supporters of Bangladesh’s ruling Awami League Party protested against the opposition leader, Begum Khalida Zia, saying that she triggers violence in the country.
