Srinagar, March 7 (ANI): At a time when the internet seems the easy way out in the gathering of information and knowledge, the book exhibition organised by the Directorate of School Education in Srinagar city of India's northern Jammu and Kashmir appeared a welcome step towards inculcating the passion of reading classics among people of all age groups. The exhibition showcased a blend of modern with the ancient and included a wide range of books on history, geography, culture, tradition, ancient and contemporary literature, science and technology, Islam, Sufism and heritage of the state. Youngsters at the exhibition felt the need of more of such fairs in order to get a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the state which has intrigued people all over. At a time when the internet, a repository of information on the web, has given books a stiff competition, such an exhibition in a bid to inculcate the habit of reading among the young generation is a welcome step. Goa, March 7 (ANI): Tourists from India and across the world thronged western Goa province and took part in four-day carnival, which saw a blend of food, music and dance. The 'Viva Carnival 2014', which was celebrated till March 04, began on a colourful note during which people danced to traditional tunes. The carnival was declared open by 'King Momo' and led the float parade through the streets of Panjim city amid huge crowds. People in the parade got a glimpse of Goan culture and tradition and were spellbound by float parade, accompanied by dance performances and fashion shows. Large tableaux with numerous floats that depicted environment, music, culture, traditions of Goa saw young and old, enjoying themselves and having a fun filled experience by dancing to the pulsating beats from Goan bands. Yard-701 mishap: One officer killed, two injured

Mumbai, March 07 (ANI): Just weeks before INS Kolkata (officially called Yard 701), was to be commissioned, the warship was hit by an accident at the Mazgoan Dockyard in Mumbai on Friday. A naval officer was killed and two others were injured in the accident. The warship was undergoing fitments and trials when the mishap occurred in its engine room. The officer who perished was identified as Commander Kuntal Wadhwa. According to reports, the accident took place due to a malfunction in the warship's carbon dioxide unit, leading to gas leakage during machinery trials. Mar 7, 2014

SC rejects Sahara's repayment proposal, Subrata Roy to stay in jail

New Delhi, March 07 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday rejected Sahara Group's plea of releasing Subrata Roy and other two directors from police custody. The Court found Sahara's proposal of refunding crores of rupees to small investors in installments improper and therefore rejected it by calling it a "big insult". The apex court pulled up the Sahara chief for making bench assemble before March 11 schedule. Rs 22 crores property found in Lokayukta raid at PWD guard's house

Indore, March 07 (ANI): In a raid conducted by the Lokayukta officials in Indore, a Public Works Department (PWD) employee Gurukripal Singh was found to be in possession of disproportionate assets worth over Rs 22 crores.
