Sheikh Hasina wins again after BNP boycotts Bangladesh's general elections

New Delhi, Jan 13 (ANI): An election somewhat tarnished by bloody street violence and boycott by a major political party but Bangladesh has decided to stay on course. The Awami League won 232 of the 300 elected seats much more than the 151 needed for a majority. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath to the new lawmakers including party president Sheikh Hasina. Satisfied over his election win, Awami League lawmaker, Mohammad Subid Ali Bhuiyan assured the people that the party would fulfill all its electoral promises. Sachin Pilot named Rajasthan Congress Chief

New Delhi, Jan 13 (ANI): The Congress Party has appointed Union Minister for Corporate Affairs Sachin Pilot as the new president of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. The 36-year-old Minister for Corporate Affairs is a close associate of party Vice President Rahul Gandhi and is the son of late Union Minister Rajesh Pilot and Rama Pilot, who was also MP for a term. Pilot's appointment as PCC chief comes a month after the party's poor performance in the desert state. The Congress could secure just 21 out of the 200 Assembly seats in Rajasthan, leading to the exit of the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government. Jan 13, 2014

Magh Bihu celebrated in Assam

Guwahati, Jan 13 (ANI): Celebrations of harvest festival Magh Bihu are in full swing in Guwahati city of Assam with fairs being set up. A five day fair from January 9 to January 13 was organized to mark the celebration of the harvest festival. The fair serves as a platform for people to know about their culture and traditional food. Fair organizer Binita Deka said that besides providing a market, people are given fresh food items through this fair, which are often difficult to access. Some of the traditional food items that were prepared include Pitha, Tilar Laru, Sunga Pitha, Tekeli Pitha, rice cakes and coconut sweets. Traditional rice grinder called "Dheki" was also being exhibited during the fair and women were seen grinding rice for rice cake preparations. Jan 13, 2014
