Chit fund investors stage protest in Siliguri, threaten to boycott polls

Siliguri, Mar 8 (ANI): Thousands of duped investors in Siliguri city of West Bengal took to streets protesting against chit fund companies in the state. People were protesting against fraudulent chit fund companies in the state and also threatened to boycott upcoming general elections, if action is not taken in this regard. Over two lakh investors from different parts of northern Bengal, who have invested 433 crore rupees, are demanding arrest of owners of all chit fund companies. Protesters alleged that they invested in companies after getting assurance from the state government, but now they are not taking any stringent actions. The Saradha Group went bust in April 2013, wiping out crores of rupees in deposits from mostly low-income Indians, miring West Bengal's government in scandal, and illustrating the risks faced by the millions who live outside the banking system. Women run for equal rights, mark spirit of International Women's Day

Thiruvananthapuram/ Patna, Mar 8 (ANI): Women in different parts of India marked the spirit of International Women's Day and came out of their houses to participate in marathon and walkathon. In a bid to aware people on equal rights for women, 1000 ladies in Patna on Saturday took part in the 'Run for Women Empowerment' marathon. A participant, Laxmi Rai, said the initiative was part of a drive aimed at changing the mindset of people in treating women. The event was first-of-its-kind in Bihar, informed organizers. New Delhi, March 08 (ANI): An unknown man threw ink at AAP leader Yogendra Yadav on Saturday during a rally at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Yadav said that a man came on the stage and smeared ink on his face shouting nationalist slogans. He said that the intention behind the same was not known and avoided blaming anyone for the incident. New Delhi, Mar 8 (ANI): Minutes after RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav restated that his daughter Misa Bharti will remain RJD's Lok Sabha polls candidate from Patliputra, an upset Ram Kripal Yadav resigned from all party posts. Kumar Vishwas accused of violation of model code of conduct in UP

Sultanpur, March 08 (ANI): AAP leader Kumar Vishwas was accused of violation of model code of conduct in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh when he rushed with family members of some labourers killed in an accident at a construction site. Reportedly while digging a pit, some labourers got stuck as the mud near the pit slipped towards the opening pulling the labourers along. Two bodies were recovered while two were reportedly still stuck when Vishwas reached the spot. Vishwas later joined the family members of the deceased and others to meet the district magistrate seeking immediate action.
