Rahul Gandhi visits cyclone Hudhud-hit Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, Oct 19 (ANI): Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday took stalk of the situation in cyclone Hudhud-hit Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, along with the party leaders. The death toll from a cyclone that hit the east coast last week has risen to 41, as authorities struggle to restore power, transport and communication links and shelter 150,000 people forced to abandon their homes. Gandhi took a stroll of the cyclone affected areas, where the disaster-hit victims flocked around him to share their grievances. Cyclone Hudhud slammed into the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, tearing down tens of thousands of mud-and-thatch homes, and flattening rice, banana and sugarcane plantations.

MPCC President Manikrao Thakre resigns

Mumbai, Oct 19 (ANI): Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Manikrao Thakre tendered his resignation on Sunday. The resignation came after senior Congress leaders conceded defeat in both Maharashtra and Haryana. Thakre while addressing a press conference said that he had sent his resignation to Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Meanwhile, Thakre congratulated his son Nitesh who won from Kankavli on Congress ticket. Thakre had earlier today dismissed the initial trends and said that he hoped the Congress would get above 50 seats in the state assembly.

Haryana Polls: BJP to form govt for the first time, says Gadkari

Bollywood comes together for Kashmir Flood Victims

New Delhi, Oct 19 (ANI): From Aamir Khan to Farhan Akhtar, Anupam Kher to Vivek Oberoi along with several other film and music personalities joined hands for a special concert 'Hum Hain Umeed-e-Kashmir' to raise funds for the flood victims of Kashmir and Assam in New Delhi. The concert was an initiative of the entertainment industry led by the Event and Entertainment Management Association (EEMA), the Film and Television Producers Guild and Zee Media. Voicing their concerns over the issue, stars urged people to make their contribution in whatever way possible. Kashmir floods affect supply of dry fruits ahead of Diwali

Ahmedabad/ Srinagar, Oct 19 (ANI): The worst floods in the last several decades that submerged Kashmir recently, have badly affected the supply of dry fruits from the state that are packed into glittering boxes and distributed as gifts in Diwali throughout India. The state of Jammu and Kashmir is one of the major suppliers of dry fruits in India. Farmers remained the worst hit due to the massive floods in Kashmir as stagnant water in their agricultural fields damaged crops and affected the yield. Diwali, which will fall on October 23 this year, is celebrated with great fervour and gaiety all over India. Shop owners in Ahmedabad said that the floods affected their business this year with the scant supply of dry fruits.
