Bodhgaya, Oct 17 (ANI): Buddhist monks of Lao People's Democratic Republic on Wednesday performed special prayers in holy town of Bodhgaya for world peace and tranquillity. Envoy of People's Democratic Republic, Southam Sakonninhom, participated in the prayers and after inaugurating the new building of Lao Buddhist monastery. Lao envoy expressed happiness after performing the prayers and hailed the country's tradition. Buddhists believe that the Buddha, "the awakened", to the laws of the universe, which are said to be operating eternally. Buddhist scriptures describe Bodh Gaya as the "Navel of the Earth", where pilgrims and tourists from Sri Lanka, China, Japan and the entire of southeastern Asia throng to this holiest of Buddhist shrines every year. New Delhi, Oct 17 (ANI): The fifth meeting of the energy ministers of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was held in New Delhi on Friday, with an aim to strengthen energy cooperation among the member countries. Energy ministers and senior officials from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka were part of the meeting. India's Power and Coal Minister, Piyush Goyal, said that the similarities between the socio-economic conditions would help the SAARC nations to stay together and become a regional economic power house. NSG defuses explosives found in Burdwan district of West Bengal

Burdwan, Oct 17 (ANI): Commandos of National Security Guard (NSG) defused over 40 hand grenades and bombs that were found in Burdwan district of West Bengal on Friday. A joint team of the NSG and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday recovered the ammunition in large quantities from a house in the district. Apart from grenades, the team recovered five socket bombs also from the house of one Rizwan Sheikh. This recovery comes after two suspected militants were killed and another was injured in the explosion which occurred on October 02 at a house in Khagragarh area of the district. The involvement of militant outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba and Harkat-ul Jihad al-Islami are being suspected in the blast.
