Sushma Swaraj flags off Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

New Delhi, June 11 (ANI): Foreign minister, Sushma Swaraj, on Wednesday flagged off the annual Hindu pilgrimage, Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, to the holy Lake Mansarovar in Tibet, the water of which is believed to cleanse all sins according to Hindus. Mansarovar Lake and the flanking Mount Kailash, which is the highest mountain in Tibet at 22,022 feet, are revered by Hindus as the abode of their god Shiva. Annually, pilgrims come from all over the subcontinent to take ceremonial baths in the lake water. The pilgrimage-route is considered prone to earthquakes and landslides. Jun 11, 2014

Beaches of south offer respite from rising mercury

Visakhapatnam, June 11 (ANI): The blistering summer sun continues to sizzle life in south compelling families to rush to beaches to beat the heat and enjoy the coolness of the sea waves. The delay and the sluggish pace of the monsoons ensures no respite from the heat for most parts of the country for some time to come. As mercury points northwards in Andhra Pradesh, the intense heat leaves people sick and residents now flock towards the beach for a respite from the discomfort and to enjoy the cold waves splashing on the shore. A doctor, Sunita Sen, visiting the beach in Vishakhapatnam offered some sound advice to remain healthy this season. Officials carry out rescue operation, recover bodies of two Russian tourists killed in bus crash

Uttarkashi, June 11 (ANI): Indian police and army officials continued to carry out rescue operation for the injured victims and recovered bodies of the Russian tourists who were killed after a minibus they were travelling on plunged into a river in a Himalayan valley on Monday.
