Candidates file nomination ahead of polls in Jharkhand even as Maoist calls for boycott

Latehar, Nov 04 (ANI): Candidates filed nominations for the first time in Jharkhand even as Maoists called for a boycott of the elections scheduled for later this month. The five-phased state assembly polls in Jharkhand will begin from November 25 and end on December 20. The results would be announced on December 23. A voter Sashi Kumar said that they look forward to better amenities. A candidate of RJD, Ramchandra Singh filed his nomination. Enrolment of over 5,000 workers was also witnessed in the Maoist infested Latehar district. However, a local Yogesh Prasad said that despite being a Maoist affected area, the locals took part in the nominations with great enthusiasm playing drums and performing folk dance. Delhi Government formation: LG sends status report to MHA

New Delhi, Nov 4 (ANI): Lieutenant Governor (LG) Najeeb Jung on Tuesday sent a status report to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) over government formation in Delhi. Jung had held consultations with the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at the Raj Niwas to explore the possibility of government formation in Delhi on Monday. In the meeting, all the parties had expressed their inability to form the government in Delhi. Curfew imposed in Srinagar ahead of Muharram

Srinagar, Nov 4 (ANI): Even as a complete shutdown is being observed in several parts of the Kashmir valley, Muharram processions would be taken out amid tight security in the state on Tuesday. Security personnel are manning the streets in Srinagar and shops and businesses have been shut down. More than 6,000 police personnel and several drones with live satellite feed would patrol and guard the city so that mourners can observe the Muharram peacefully. The processions would be taken out amid water-tight security, as Shi'ite Muslim mourners indulge in self flagellation, to commemorate the death of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad. Security tightened in Trilokpuri on Muharram

New Delhi, Nov 4 (ANI): Security was tightened in Trilokpuri area on the occasion of Muharram on Tuesday. Along with the local police, Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were also seen on patrol in the area. The police have imposed restrictions on the display of weapons- swords, lathis and knives - during the festival and will be keeping a close watch on the procession. The measures have been taken in the wake of last week's communal clashes in the area which had left five injured including two teenagers. Over 1,000 policemen and paramilitary personnel have been posted at Trilokpuri area after the clashes took place. Every year, Muslims observe Muharram to mourn the death of Imam Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad, in the battle of Karbala. Nov 4, 2014

Manipur police reduce drugs worth crores to ashes

Imphal, Nov 4 (ANI): In what seems to be a unique clean up exercise, state police of Manipur set fire to a bounty worth of large amount of drugs seized from various parts of capital Imphal. Police trucks arrived at an open field in the Lilong Pan Ahanbi area in the state capital and unloaded huge packages containing narcotics that had been seized from various police stations in Imphal between 2012 and 2013. The police officer who headed the disposal, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Range-IV, Imphal, Kh. Chandramani Singh said that the illegal narcotics were worth more than 4.5 crore. Grenades hurled at CRPF camp in JandK

Sopore, Nov 04 (ANI): Suspected militants hurled grenades at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp at Sopore in Baramulla Distric of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. Witnesses said people ran for cover after the explosive was hurled. However, one rifle grenade did not explode and the other missed the target. The rifle was later on defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad.
