3 militants killed in an encounter in Keran Sector near LoC

Udhampur, Sep 10 (ANI): Three terrorists were killed in an encounter that broke out in Keran sector of Kupwara District on Wednesday morning. The encounter operation was launched by the army after they had specific information about their movement in the Keran sector. The identity of the terrorists is not yet known. PRO Defence, S D Goswami said that three militants have been killed in the Kishanganj range near Line of Control. He further said that they have recovered three AK-47 rifles, 15 magazines and 319 rounds of ammunitions. Sep 10, 2014

Kerala Liquor ban: SC to hear bar owners plea on Thursday

New Delhi, Sep 10 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday told the Kerala Government not to enforce its order to ban non-five-star hotel bars till Thursday, when the apex court will hear several petitions challenging the ban. An apex court bench headed by Justice Anil R. Dave asked the Kerala Government to wait till it ruled on the matter. The state government had passed an order banning the sale of liquor at bars and hotels below the five-star category. The ban was to come into force from September 11. Last month, in a bid to reduce the availability of liquor across the state, the Kerala Cabinet sanctioned the closing of 730 bars. Sep 10, 2014

Massive rescue operations underway as flood situation remains grim in JandK

Srinagar, Sep 10 (ANI): Rising death toll in Kashmir and worst floods in 60 years submerged villages and destroyed crops as the number of dead hit 420 and thousands remained trapped on rooftops. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had earlier said that paramilitary and defence forces were pressed into service to rescue people stranded on rooftops and flooded residential areas. A tourist affected by floods, Rajat Khanna, said he waded through neck-deep floodwater to reach a safer place. Another tourist who has been stranded due to floods, Mitesh Chugh, said all connections were snapped. Soldiers rescued families using boats or airlifted them from rooftops by helicopter after the river Jhelum burst its banks in Srinagar, but many more remained stranded. Sep 10, 2014

New Delhi, Sep 10(ANI): According to reports Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju has asked the aviation officials to tone down the existing list of people exempt from the security checks at airports. Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has 30 people on the exempt list which begins with the President and goes up to special protection group protectees. The list also includes the Dalai Lama. The only individual listed in that list (on number 31) is Robert Vadra. Gujarat on high alert for probable floods

Vadodara, Sep 10 (ANI): Alarmed by the flood havoc created in Kashmir, the government of Gujarat was on high alert following heavy, incessant rains that have disrupted normal life in the state. Reportedly, with incessant rains since Monday morning and with Sardar Sarovar dam overflowing, people residing on the banks of river Dhadhar have been asked to exercise caution as heavy rains were forecast in the next 72 hours. In wake of a flood like situation, the state government beefed up precautionary measures to safeguard the residents of the area. Chief Minister of Gujarat, Anandiben Patel, surveying the area said that people have been alerted about the situation and measures have been implemented to safeguard them. Health Ministers of S East Asian countries meet in Dhaka to focus on vector borne diseases

Dhaka, Sep 10 (ANI): The Health Ministers of 11 South East Asian countries met in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka for a four-day meeting on various health issues pertaining to the region with special focus on vector-borne diseases. The 32nd meeting of the Ministers of Health of World Health Organisation South-East Asia Region (WHO-SEAR) and the 67th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia started on Wednesday. Margaret Chan, Director General of World Health Organization (WHO) said that the meeting was special as the focus this year was on vector-borne diseases. Meanwhile, India's Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, addressing the gathering said that he was happy that traditional medicine was being discussed by the committee. He also said that he was happy that an agreement was being signed between India and Bangladesh in this field.
