Cloudy weather in plains to continue for more days: IMD

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): The Director of Indian Meteorological Department BP Yadav said on Saturday that cold weather is making its hold in Delhi and other northern plain areas. Yadav said that due to cold waves in Jammu and Kashmir weather will continuously become colder in plains. He added that cloudy weather will lead to higher temperatures during night as compared to day.

Social activists in Kerala protest against moral policing by demonstrating 'Kiss of Love'

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 13 (ANI): Social activists of a mass-kissing campaign, 'Kiss of Love', held protest in Kerala against moral policing. Activists held the protest outside the venue of the ongoing annual International Film Festival in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday. A social activist, Aswathy Sreeram, said they were campaigning for what she said "Right to love" and against moral policing. The protest against moral policing kicked off from Kochi and Kozhikode cities in Kerala early November. Since then, the campaign has swept the country, advertised via Facebook, as urban youngsters challenge a deeply conservative society. Dozens of 'Kiss of Love' activists stole kisses and blocked traffic near a metro station in New Delhi last month, outnumbering a handful of right-wing protesters who see such public displays as a threat to Indian culture.

Saradha Scam: Madan Mitra sent to CBI custody till December 16

Kolkata, Dec 13 (ANI): Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra has reportedly been sent to CBI custody till Dec 16 in connection with the Saradha scam case. He was produced in Alipore court on Saturday, a day after the CBI arrested him. Mitra, however, termed his arrest as a political conspiracy. Earlier, supporters of the Yuva Trinamool Congress blocked the vehicle in which he was being taken and threw flowers on his car. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that Mitra will remain the transport minister and she would handle the ministry in his absence. On Friday, Banerjee sparked a controversy after backing the senior TMC leader. She said that Mitra's arrest was unconstitutional and slammed the CBI and BJP government at the Centre, accusing them of conspiring against her party.

Congress' Captain Amarinder Singh to meet Sushma Swaraj to talk about abducted workers in Iraq

Amritsar, Dec 13 (ANI): Former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh said on Saturday that he would meet India's Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj to seek status report on bringing back abducted workers from Iraq. Singh met relatives of missing construction workers in Amritsar and assured them of pursuing the central government on this issue. Meanwhile, relative of another abducted worker, Manish, said even after meeting Swaraj several times, there were only assurances. Swaraj had said last month that search for missing Indian workers in war-torn Iraq was still on, assuring families that India would leave no stone unturned to find their loved ones.

Chinese envoy to India optimistic about trilateral relations between India, China and the US

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): Chinese envoy to India on Saturday said he hoped the trilateral relations between India, China and the US would contribute greatly to world peace and development. Envoy Le Yucheng was speaking at a conference "Shaping the 21st Century: India, US and China", organised ahead of US president Barak Obama's visit to India early next year. President Barack Obama will visit India in January at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While China and India have close economic and historical links, there is deep suspicion too, fuelled in part by a festering border dispute.

Experts say arrest of ISIS twitter handler a wake-up call

New Delhi/ Allahabad, Dec 13 (ANI): Experts on Saturday (December 13) said the arrest of a man operating a pro-Islamic State Twitter account was a wake-up call and called upon investigation agencies to work along with neighbouring countries to fight militancy. Security Experts Praful Bakshi and Qamar Agha said that it is the failure of investigating agencies and a wake up call for authorities. Talking about the incident, cyber expert, Pawan Duggal, said that cyber terrorism was emerging as the biggest challenge. Mehdi Masroor Biswas's arrest at home came days after Britain's Channel Four identified him as the man behind "Shami Witness", the Twitter handle followed by thousands of people including most foreign fighters for the Islamic State.

Cross border trade in Kashmir going strong

Poonch, Dec 13 (ANI): Cross-border trade between Indian Kashmir and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) has picked up after recent flash floods damaged several bridges. The cross border trade at Chakan-da-Bagh was suspended in September due to the damage of the Time-Domain Reflectometer (TDR) cause way bridge on the Line of Control (LoC).This is the only link which connects Poonch in Indian Kashmir with Rawalkot in PoK. Jammu and Kashmir had witnessed worst flooding in September in which hundreds were killed and marooned. The valley is still recuperating from the after effects. The cross-border trade between the two nations was resumed after almost three weeks in October. A trader, Aziz, expressed happiness over resumption of cross-border trade, adding apples from Pakistan are very popular among the Indians.

ISIS twitter case: Accused arrested by police, confesses operating account since many years

Bengaluru, Dec 13 (ANI): The man accused of handling pro-ISIS twitter account has been arrested by a special team of officials of Bengaluru Police on Saturday. DGP of Karnataka, L Pachuau said that the man identified as Mehdi Masroor Biswas was an engineer by profession and belongs to West Bengal. Bengaluru Police Commissioner MN Reddi said that Masroor was related to ISIS only virtually and used to translate Arabic tweets to English.

Mamata Banerjee faces heat as her minister is arrested in Saradha scam

New Delhi/ Kolkata, Dec 13 (ANI): Political leaders mounted pressure on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday, a day after one of her senior ministers Madan Mitra was arrested by the CBI in the multi-million dollar Saradha scam. Mitra is the third senior member of Banerjee's regional Trinamool Congress who has been arrested by CBI for their involvement in the scam. Earlier, Kunal Ghosh and Srinjoy Bose were also arrested by the police in connection with the scam.
