Politicos remember martyrs on 13th anniversary of Parliament attack

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): Politicos remembered and paid homage to the martyrs of the 2001 Parliament attack on its 13th anniversary. Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that the nation would always remember the sacrifice of the martyrs. BJP leader LK Advani said that the government wants that the neighboring countries should take the steps to eradicate terrorism then only talks will be supportive. Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan said that the way all fought bravely was appreciable.CPI leader D Raja said that the martyrs made great sacrifice for the country and the country needs to keep the memory alive.

Rajasthan govt completes one year under Vasundhara Raje

Jaipur, Dec 13 (ANI): It's been a year for Vasundhara Raje government in Rajasthan and the state has continued to go along with its promise of ‘minimum government and maximum governance'. Rajasthan, literally, "Land of Kings" or "Land of Kingdoms", is India's largest state by area. The state conjures up images of a land of forts and palaces, colours and flavours, architectures and wildscapes and is known for its hospitality and touristic attractions. Raje took over as chief minister of Rajasthan on December 13th, 2013, succeeding Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. The BJP returned to power after five years in 2013, winning a record 162 seats and leaving the Congress bruised with just 21 members in the 200-seat legislature.

PM Modi pays floral tribute to martyrs of 2001 Parliament attack

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): On the anniversary of 2001 Parliament attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives during attack. Along with PM Modi, former PM Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and BJP senior leader LK Advani also paid tribute to the martyrs. Earlier in the day, PM Modi had tweeted "We salute martyrs who lost their lives protecting the Temple of our Democracy on this day in 2001. Their sacrifices are etched in our memory". On December 13, 2001, heavily armed terrorists infiltrated the Parliament House and began firing their weapons during the time of Parliament session.

Sarpanch kidnapped and killed in Sopore district

Sopore, Dec 13 (ANI): In yet another gruesome killing of a Sarpanch in Kashmir, the sarpanch belonging to National Conference from Sopore area of Baramulla district was kidnapped and murdered by suspected terrorists on Saturday. According to the reports, unidentified gunmen on Friday evening allegedly kidnapped 62 year old Ghulam Mohammad from his residence in Tarzoo area of Sopore town. Sarpanch's family had lodged a complaint with the police following which a search operation was launched to rescue the kidnapped sarpanch. Police found his body on Saturday morning. Sarpanch's daughter said that at least four masked men had jumped over the compound wall of the house and forced the sarpanch out. The incident took place three days after Sopore Assembly went to polls in the third phase of elections in the state.

State working for all round development, making women heads of family: Vasundhara Raje

Jaipur, Dec 13 (ANI): As Vasundhara Raje government completes one years of governance in Rajasthan, the chief minister said that the state is working for all round development and are bringing in reforms to make women the heads of the family. Raje said that the year has been a disturbing one and the government could function only for 151 days out of total 365 days as holidays, model code of conduct, and elections have taken up rest of the time. One of the major achievements that Raje is looking up to is the Bhamashah reform which would roll out on 15th. Bhamashah scheme is a card that comes with a bank account number in the name of the female head of the family. Her biometrics details are recorded and only she can withdraw money. Among others, the chief minister also said that the government is working to bring the financial sector back on track and bring employment to youth so that Rajasthan is counted one amongst the developed states in India.

Muslims in Lucknow protest against mass religious conversion

Lucknow/New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): Muslims in Uttar Pradesh staged a protest against alleged forced religious conversion of minority community by hardline Hindu groups. Protesters shouted slogans, held placards and appealed the government to form a committee to probe the matter. Police have announced a cash reward for the arrest of Kishori Lal Balmiki, main accused in the forced conversion. India's 1.2 billion people are predominantly Hindus. But the country also has some 160 million Muslims and a small proportion of Christians.

Maoists torch vehicles at mining belt in Jharkhand

Lohardaga, Dec 13 (ANI): The red rebels burnt trucks and heavy vehicles used for mining in Jharkhand, hindering the mining work in the area. The mining, dispatch and transportation of bauxite from the mines in the Maoist hit Kisko police station area of Lohardaga district came to a grinding halt after a group of rebels torched more than 20 vehicles. A truck owner, Pradip Sahu said there are around 300 labourers employed and their livelihood has been affected by the incident. He said Maoists have torched bauxite laded trucks before also. The Maoists from Bharatiya Communist Party (BCP) came late at night, attacked the labour working and torched the vehicles, obstructing the excavation work of bauxite. They burnt at least 20 trucks, two earth movers, a compressor machine and a tractor employed for the mining work. The rebels also left pamphlets behind in which they owned up for the incident.

First naval establishment in Visakhapatnam 'INS Circars' celebrates platinum jubilee

Visakhapatnam, Dec 13 (ANI): The first naval establishment in Visakhapatnam, INS Circars, marked its platinum jubilee. Visakhapatnam, in Andhra Pradesh was identified by the British as an important convoy assembly point for military operation in 1923. Commanding Officer, INS Circars, Saleem Anwer said a small naval base commissioned in 1939 by the British is celebrating its 75th year of establishment. The establishment became HMIS Circars on April 12, 1942 and post independence the establishment was renamed to INS Circars. Anwer added that the base also extended support in terms of relief and rehabilitation when Visakhapatnam was hit by cyclone Hudhud in October. The postal department also released a postal cover and a photo session for the naval officials also took place.

PM Modi attends inauguration of ceremonial hall at President Estate

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the inauguration of ceremonial hall at President Estate in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said President Estate (Rashtrapati Bhavan) has become a symbol of India's pride across the world. He added that President Pranab Mukherjee has made a unique contribution in re-energising the Rashtrapati Bhavan complex. Modi also mentioned that the existing institutions have to be revitalised from time to time, and President's contribution in this regard is an inspiration for all countrymen, in the quest for building a modern India. The Prime Minister also expressed happiness that on December 11, which happens to be President's birthday, the United Nations accepted India's proposal on International Yoga Day.

Rejuvenation camp pampers 45 temple elephants in Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore, Dec 13 (ANI): Away from the maddening crowd and back in their natural habitat, a total of 45 temple elephants are being pampered at the 48-day annual rejuvenation camp in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. The elephants will enjoy steady supply of delicious food and mirthful games at the camp organised by the Tamil Nadu government. Around nine million rupees are being spent to pamper the elephants. The camp concludes on January 25. The state government has also earmarked about six-acre lush area along the banks of the river Bhavani in Coimbatore district to be the jumbo spa. Minister of Hindu religious and charitable endowments, Chendur Pandian, said the camp contributes significantly for the rejuvenation of the elephants belonging to temples and mutts. Every year, the forest department of the Tamil Nadu government organises this camp for elephants belonging to temples and mutts. Elephants from neighbouring Puducherry are also attending the camp.
