Odisha, Jan 31 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated scientists for the successful test-firing of India's longest range ballistic missile Agni-V. "Successful test-firing of Agni V from a canister makes the missile a prized asset for our forces. I salute our scientists for their efforts," the Prime Minister tweeted. Agni-V was successfully test-fired on Saturday from a canister on the Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), this is the missile's third launch. However, it is the first from a canister, a method that allows the missile to be fired even from roads. The missile can carry a 1.1-tonne nuclear warhead over 5,000 km. Jan 31, 2015

Bollywood rekindles its romance with Kashmir valleys

Srinagar, Jan 31 (ANI): India's thriving film industry, Bollywood, is once again flocking to its favourite shooting locales in Jammu and Kashmir to shoot for films. The valley was a favourite with Bollywood directors for over three decades till 1980s until the situation turned adverse in 1989 with the onset of militancy and Bollywood had to look for other locations to shoot as the security issues did not permit filming in the valley. Prior to the peace in the valley being disturbed iconic films like 'Silsila', 'Karma', 'Aarzoo', 'Mangal Pandey', 'Betaab' and many others were shot here. Bollywood Director Sharique Minhaj said that Bollywood was not able to do justice to its relation with Kashmir. However, now there is a visible change in this perception and Bollywood is going back to highlighting the picturesque beauty of Kashmir. India revises up 2013/14 GDP growth to 6.9 percent

New Delhi, Jan 31 (ANI): India revised its economic growth to 6.9 percent from 4.7 percent in the fiscal year to March 2014 after the government changed the formula to measure the economy, a move that will make it easier for the government to meet fiscal deficit goals. The new measurement of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) includes under-represented and informal economic sectors as well as items such as smartphones and LED television sets. The government also revised its GDP for 2012/13 to 5.1 percent from 4.5 percent earlier. New Delhi revises the method of calculating national accounts and other macro data every five years, bringing in a newer base year and adjusting for changes in the economy. It will now use 2011/12 as the new base year, instead of 2004/05. The new methodology moves India more in line with global standards by measuring the economy at market prices, and by tracking consumer rather than wholesale inflation. Jan 31, 2015

West Bengal, Jan 31 (ANI): The body of former Gorkha soldier Subash Ghising, who ignited Gorkhaland fire in Darjeeling in West Bengal in the eighties, has been flown to Bagdogra airport and would be taken to his village for last rites. Ghising, 79, died at a government hospital in New Delhi. He is survived by his son. A large crowd of his supporters gathered at Bagdogra airport when his body was brought from New Delhi in a plane. EC raids AAP candidate Naresh Balyan's residence, recovers over 5000 liquor bottles

New Delhi, Jan 31 (ANI): The Election Commission officials raided the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Candidate Naresh Balyan in Delhi and recovered thousands of liquor bottles. Over 5,000 liquor bottles were recovered from Balyan's residence and an FIR has been lodged against him for violating Model Code of Conduct. Balyan is contesting upcoming Delhi Assembly polls from Uttam Nagar and the incident tarnishes the party's image for the polls scheduled for February 7.
