School in Chennai attempts record for largest book reading session

Chennai, Jan 31 (ANI): A school in Tamil Nadu attempted to make a record for the largest book reading session on Friday. A total of 2234 students of the Velammal Matric Higher Secondary School in Chennai gathered in the school grounds to attend the reading session. Senior students took out time to read to their junior schoolmates as they sat on chairs together. The book that was chosen was 'Dora the Explorer', which revolves around the adventures of a young girl and her pet monkey. The session was organised to inculcate the art of reading in young children, which many believe has been lost to technology like computer games and television.

Road accident kills six in Assam

Sonitpur, Jan 31 (ANI): Six persons were killed in a road accident in Sonitpur district of Assam on Saturday. The collision was between a bus and a car carrying a marriage party on the National Highway 15. The marriage party was on their way from the wedding 200 kilometers away, to the groom's house. While four people, including the married couple died on the spot, two others died after being brought to a nearby hospital. The car was totalled. In a separate incident on Saturday, five labourers were killed when a truck laden with bricks skidded off the road in the same district.

It's official! Men take twice as many selfies as women

New Delhi, Jan 31 (ANI): A new research has recently shown that men take twice more selfies and share them online as compared to women. A leading smartphone company surveyed 2,000 Britishers and found that a quarter of men shares selfies to make their ex or current partner jealous, a leading daily reported. The researchers found that men post an average of three self portraits each week as compared to women who post 1.6 pictures. Men even confessed that they do so to make themselves appear more desirable. According to the researchers the selfie trend exploded in 2014 and showed no signs of slowing down, instead of that with all the social sites and dating apps having the best possible photos was an important part.

FIR filed against AAP candidate Pramila Tokas on derogatory remarks against schedule caste woman

New Delhi, Jan 31 (ANI): AAP candidate Pramila Tokas along with her husband Dheeraj Tokas has been accused in an FIR of assaulting a scheduled caste woman. The complainant said that she was threatened and abused by the Pramila Tokas and few others. She further said that some AAP party workers also took all her documents. BJP leader Anil Sharma said that it is a saddening to know that AAP has given ticket to a criminal. He added that AAP has been making false promises especially related to issue of women security.

BJP files complaint with EC against 'sexist remarks' by Kumar Vishwas

New Delhi, Jan 31 (ANI): BJP leadership on Saturday filed a complaint with the Election Commission against 'sexist remarks' by AAP leader Kumar Vishwas. Vishwas at a political rally for upcoming Delhi polls, said that BJP has two issues with AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal. He had said that the BJP has two problems with Kejriwal; first with his muffler and second with his coughing, and 'as if they have to sleep with Kejriwal in his bedroom'. Earlier, Kiran Bedi had lodged a police complaint against Kumar Vishwas for making objectionable comments against her party.

Kejriwal files complaint with EC over discrepancies in EVMs

New Delhi, Jan 31 (ANI): AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday filed complaint with the Election Commission over discrepancies in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). He said that people are worried about the problems with the EVMs and that the party has sought help from the EC over the same. Kejriwal said that many times it happens like voters cast their vote to a particular party and the vote gets registered with another party. He appealed the voters to take pay attention on such incidents and ask the guards to address their grievances.
