PM Modi addresses Fiji's Parliament

Fiji, Nov 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, addressed the Fiji Parliament. Modi said that India and Fiji are quite similar in terms of representing women in politics but added that India can learn a lot from Fiji as their ratio for women parliamentarians was higher. He congratulated Fiji for a recent successful election highlighting its importance for democracy. He also said that Fiji has led the G-77 with great vision and statesmanship. Modi also said that trade relations between India and Fiji have been modest.

Modi said that India is prepared to work for a digital Fiji. Prime Minister announced a financial help of five million US dollars to Fiji for development of its villages. He also laid emphasis on the need to work in areas of climate and energy.

Law and order has to be maintained in Hisar: BS Hooda on Sant Rampal

New Delhi, Nov 19 (ANI): Speaking over the self-styled godman Sant Rampal row former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday said that law and order has to be maintained in Hisar. He added that the government and Sant Rampal supporters need to solve the matter so that there is no further tension. The situation is still tense in Hisar as the controversial Sant Rampal continues to evade law and defy Haryana and Punjab High Court and police orders to surrender. The Haryana Police, which yesterday failed to arrest Rampal and produce him before the state high court after more than six hour of concerted action and violent clashes with the godman's supporters which left scores injured, will make another attempt today to arrest him. Sant Rampal's ashram in Hisar turned into a war zone on Tuesday when hundreds of policemen and Rampal's followers fought a pitched battle, as the police tried to enter the ashram to arrest the godman. The violence left over 200 injured, including some mediapersons.

PM Modi arrives in Fiji, appreciates scenic beauty and people

Fiji, Nov 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Fiji for a day-long visit, the first by an Indian premier to the country in 33 years. Modi appreciated the scenic beauty of the island nation and its people. Taking to social networking site twitter, Prime Minister Modi shared his thoughts, and posted a picture on Instagram, showing the panoramic beauty of the Pacific Ocean nation's sea shores. "Bula from Fiji! On the shores of the Pacific Ocean, among wonderful people," he tweeted. Modi will be holding bilateral talks with his counterpart Frank Bainimarama. Modi arrived here from Melbourne on the last leg of his three-nations’ ten-day tour after a hectic four-city Australia visit. Fiji and India have 135 years of historical and friendly relations and a formal diplomatic relation was established in 1970. Modi is due to return home on Thursday morning.

Indian Hockey coach Terry Walsh resigns

New Delhi, Nov 19 (ANI): India's chief Hockey coach Terry Walsh quit from his position after his contractual talks with Hockey India (HI) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) broke down. But a fresh proposal is still being worked out for the Australian's consideration. Walsh, whose contract was to come to an end on Wednesday (November 19), had already submitted his resignation last month after his demands for a greater say in team decisions and hand-picked support staff were turned down by HI and SAI. However, a fresh proposal will be sent to him in the next couple of days for his consideration, leaving the door still open for his return to India. Walsh said it was a difficult decision for him adding that the team is working hard for the upcoming tournaments, including the Olympics.

India quarantines man recovering from Ebola

New Delhi, Nov 19 (ANI): India has quarantined a man who was cured of Ebola in Liberia but continued to show traces of the virus in samples of his semen after arriving in the country, Health Minister said. The ministry said in a statement that the Indian national had been shown to be negative for Ebola in tests conforming to World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines, but had been quarantined as a precautionary measure when he arrived at New Delhi airport on November 10. Later, tests of his semen detected traces of the virus. Union Health Minister, JP Nadda, said that body fluids were tested in National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Institute of Virology (NIV) where both have tested positive. The Indian man carried with him documents from Liberia that stated he had been cured. He will be kept in quarantine until the virus is no longer present in his body, and will undergo tests over the next 10 days or so, a senior Health Ministry official said. Health minister, JP Nadda, assured that things are well in control and there is no need to worry.

Sitharaman meets delegates from Tatarstan, Japan to discuss free trade agreements

New Delhi, Nov 19 (ANI): A Russian delegation led by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov met Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi. The delegation which is in India will form a Joint Working Group (JWG) of the two countries to work on ways to strengthen trade in fertilisers, chemicals and pharmaceuticals between India and Tatarstan. Meanwhile, two delegations from Japan, including one headed by the Chief Executive Officer Of Mitsui and Co. Ltd. and Chairman of Japan-India Business Co-operation Committee, Masami Iijima and Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) headed by Hiroyuki Ishige also met Sitharaman. The delegation is visiting India for the purpose of the free trade agreement being negotiated by the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) which would help India boost its commerce and manufacturing.
