PM Narendra Modi meets Governor of Victoria Alex Chernov and top CEOs of Australia

Melbourne, Nov 18 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met Governor of Victoria Alex Chernov after he arrived in Melbourne on the fourth and final leg of his four-city tour of Australia. Governor of Victoria Alex Chernov is also hosting the chief executives' roundtable during which Modi would interact with the who's who of the Australian industry and business houses. Modi signed the regular visitor's note at the entry. Following the same, PM Modi met top Australian business leaders at a Melbourne roundtable that will also have leaders from India Inc in attendance. The 20-member Indian delegation at the roundtable includes the likes of Essar Group chairman Shashi Ruia, Gautam Adani, founder and chairman, Adani group, Anand Mahindra, chairman and managing director, Mahindra Group, Vishal Sikka, chairman and managing director, Infosys, and BP Rao of BHE among others. About 500 CEOs and Managing Directors of some of Australia's biggest companies are attending the roundtable.

Market Experts credit PM Modi's Australia visit for Sensex, Nifty hitting record highs

New Delhi/ Mumbai, Nov 18 (ANI): Market Experts on Tuesday credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Australia visit as the Sensex and the Nifty hit record highs. The SandP BSE Sensex rallied as much as 105 points in trade on Tuesday to touch its fresh record high of 28282.85, led by gains in RIL, Bharti Airtel, LandT and Sesa Sterlite. Tracking the momentum, the 50-share Nifty index also surged 24 points to touch its fresh lifetime high of 8454.50, supported by gains in metal, power, capital goods and auto stocks. M arket Expert Akash Jindal said that Modi's Australia visit has been a positive one and that that Modi is bringing along optimism in the nation's economy. Ajay Shah also backed the record high on Modi's foreign tour. He also said that development in Russia and BRICS country is giving positive changes which are favourable for India.

Gujaratis are liars says Mulayam Singh Yadav, Politicos react

New Delhi, Nov 18 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Tuesday after SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said that all Gujaratis are "liars". Reacting over the statement, BJP leader Sambit Patra said that his comment puts doubt on his seniority. BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao also criticized Yadav for making such statements. BSP leader Sudhindra Bhadoria said that the statement shows Mulayam Singh Yadav's narrow mentality.

BJP on Ramdev's 'Z' category security by govt

New Delhi, Nov 18 (ANI): The Union Home Ministry has sanctioned Z-category security for yoga guru Ramdev. The yoga guru already has Z-category security provided him to by the Uttarakhand government, but the decision to grant him central security cover was taken after the Intelligence Bureau submitted a report citing a threat to his life outside his home state. Ramdev campaigned for BJP during the Lok Sabha polls. Reacting over this BJP said that there should not be politicization over providing security to anybody by such agencies.

Gunfight at godman Rampal's ashram in Hisar, supporters open fire on police

Hisar, Nov 18 (ANI): Self-styled godman Rampal's supporters opened fire on police personnel on Tuesday as they moved ahead to arrest him from his ashram in Hisar. Tension escalated in Barwala, where Rampal is said to be in his Satlok Ashram. His supporters have repeatedly warned authorities against trying to arrest him. Reportedly some mediapersons were also attacked by the supporters.

India and China begin joint military training exercise in Pune

Pune, Nov 18 (ANI): India and China began their 'Joint Training Exercise Hand – in – Hand 2014" in Pune. The exercise that aims at focusing on counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism tactics comes weeks after a stand-off between their troops along the border in Ladakh region. Lt General Bobby Mathews of Indian Army and Lt general Shi Xiangyuan of the Chinese Army inspected the guard of honour during the exercise. Lt General Bobby Mathews said that both the countries will be greatly benefited from each other. The schedule for 12 days will focus on training on crossing of obstacles, firing of various weapons, handling and neutralisation of improvised explosive devices and conduct of cordon and search operations in insurgent areas.

Patel was speaking at a curtain raiser of the 7th Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit (VGGIS) to be held in January 2015, in New Delhi. Patel further said the summit will lay emphasis on social sectors and specialised areas like climate change. The curtain raiser is to encourage investors from other states to set up business in Gujarat. The events have been planned as pre-Vibrant Gujarat summit 2015 in major cities across the country, starting from Mumbai.

Black money has pernicious impact on Indian economy: President

New Delhi, Nov 18 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee, said that unaccounted money on which tax is not paid has a pernicious impact on economy. Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi had promised his government would change laws or enact new measures to bring back such funds. On taking office, he appointed a panel to investigate the matter. Mukherjee said nexus between black money, militancy and drug trafficking posed a great threat to global peace.
