Visakhapatnam walks to spread breast cancer awareness

Visakhapatnam, Nov 17 (ANI): Visakhapatnam walked for spreading awareness on breast cancer and the importance of its early detection. The two-kilometre-long ‘Pink Ribbon Walk’ was organized by a state government’s organization on Sunday. Junior Trade Minister, D. Purandeswari, who flagged off the walk said that the country needs to do much more to curb and spread more awareness about breast cancer. Breast cancer, commonest cancer in urban India, accounts for about 30 percent of all cancers in women and around one-lakh cases of breast cancer are detected in India, every year. Doctors advice regular check-ups and at-home-check-for-breast-cancer to detect any signs of lumps.

Devout Sikhs throng Golden Temple on Guru Nanak's birth anniversary

New Delhi/Amritsar, Nov 17 (ANI): Sikh devotees revelled in the festive spirit as they congregated at the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Sunday to mark the celebrations of the 545-birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev. Golden Temple, also known as Harminder Sahib, the most important Sikh shrine in the world was illuminated with colourful lights on this occasion. The 'Jalao' was displayed which included the display of precious jewellery and articles, ornamental pieces studded with precious stones, diamonds, jewels, pearls, and bejewelled canopy. Every year, thousands of Sikh devotees from across the world throng the revered shrine, the Golden Temple and take holy dip on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti.

Devotees take holy dip in sacred rivers to celebrate 'Kartik Purnima'

Uttar Pradesh, Nov 17 (ANI): Devotees braved the chill and thronged the banks of rivers Ganges and Yamuna in Garhmukteshwar, Ayodhya and Allahabad towns, to take holy dip celebrating 'Kartik Purnima'. Devotees in large numbers converged on the banks of Sangam, the confluence of river Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati to take a holy dip in Allahabad city of Uttar Pradesh. On the eve of 'Kartik Purnima', the pilgrims camp by the riverside and decorate the entire riverbank with earthen lamps. A devotee from Garhmukteshwar, Kishan Kumar said that bathing in the sacred river helps in washing away their sins.

New Delhi, Nov 17 (ANI): Hefazat-e-Islam, backed by the Jamaat-e-Islami claimed that 3000 of their people were killed during its rally on May 5-6.
