Bangladesh academician hails Mollas execution, calls for trial of perpetrators

Dhaka, Dec 19 (ANI): Bangladesh academician, Syed Anwar Hossain hailed the execution of Islamist leader Abdul Quader Molla for war crimes committed during 1971 liberation war, while he also maintained that other perpetrators of the heinous crimes should be tried. Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Molla was hanged on December 12 in the first war crimes execution in Bangladesh. The 1971 war, in which an estimated three million people died in nine months, is a festering wound not only for those personally affected, but also for many young Bangladeshis.

US expresses regret over Devyani Khobragades arrest amidst protests in India

Ludhiana, /New Delhi/ Washington DC, Dec 19 (ANI): The United States expressed regret over the treatment meted out to Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade who was arrested last week in New York for alleged visa fraud. Khobragade was handcuffed, strip-searched and put in a cell with criminals following her arrest. Maoist attack kills one, injures two others in Jharkhand

Jharkhand, Dec 19 (ANI): A well orchestrated Maoist attack in Gumla district of Jharkhand left one woman dead and injured two others. The Maoists escaped after sighting a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction. Meanwhile, approximately 160 kilometres away from Ranchi, the Maoists planted a bomb at a petrol pump, which could have caused loss to life and property on a greater magnitude but was diffused by the prompt action of the bomb disposal squad. It was a country-made crude bomb weighing not less than seven kilograms.

Indian sailor Captain Sunil James released from Togo jail: MEA

Mumbai/ New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): Captain Sunil James along with another sailor Vijayan, who was arrested in Togo on July 31 for allegedly aiding pirates, has been released on Thursday, said the ministry of external affairs. The External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that India is preparing for the sailor’s return. James’ wife Aditi and other relatives met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh earlier this month to urge him to intervene so that James could be allowed to come home for the last rites of his 11-month old son Vivaan, who died on December 2.
