Sukma: 2 BSF jawans among 3 killed in Maoist triggered landmine

Manjhipada, Nov 12 (ANI): Two BSF jawans and a civilian driver were killed when Naxals blew up their vehicles in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. Two others were injured in the blast. The jawans were returning after security deployment for polling in Sukma when a landmine blast took place between their two vehicles near Kerlapal camp.

Bangladesh heads for 'total deadlock' ahead of elections

Dhaka, Nov 12 (ANI): A clash of ideologies has plunged Bangladesh into a cycle of violence as the two main political parties - ruling Awami League led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bangladesh National Party (BNP) headed by Begum Khaleda Zia are exploiting the tension between secularists and Islamists ahead of elections. A lawyer and secretary-general of 'The Bangladesh United Council for Hindus, Buddhists and Christians,' Rana Dasgupta drew attention towards the ideological differences between the two feuding parties. Slamming BNP for its strengthening bond with the Jamaat, Dasgupta said that the image of the party would be tarnished if the alliance continues and they come to power.

Police arrest Indian wrestler in alleged drug racket

Patiala, Nov 12 (ANI): The Punjab police arrested top award winning Indian wrestler, Jagdish Bhola, an alleged mastermind behind an international drug racket from Haryana. Jagdish Bhola was on the run after his residence was raided by the police and drugs worth Rs 100 crore were recovered. The team was tracking the accused since March this year. According to the SSP, drugs worth Rs 700 crore had earlier been seized which were being smuggled to countries like Canada, America, Europe and Australia. The SSP said there were foreigners involved in the case and that they had arrested 27 people in the case so far.

Two BSF soldiers and a civilian driver killed in blast triggered by Maoists in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Nov 12 (ANI): Three persons, two BSF jawans and a civilian driver, were killed on Tuesday in Maoist-affected Sukma district, police said. The Maoists triggered the blast on a road near Manjhipara and Badeshetti villages in Sukma from where a convoy of BSF vehicles was passing.

Registration of FIR in cognizable offences mandatory: SC

New Delhi, Nov 12 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that registration of First Information report (FIR) in cognizable offences is mandatory. A five-judge Bench, headed by Chief Justice P. Sathasivam, clarified that no preliminary inquiry by a police official is permissible as a condition for registering FIR in cognizable offences. The bench said that police officials cannot avoid registration of FIR and action must be taken against them for not lodging FIR in cognizable offences. The apex court further said that preliminary investigation must be completed within seven days. The ruling came on a petition seeking clarity on the process of police investigations.

Mumbai: Residents of Campa Cola compound protest against demolition

Mumbai, Nov 12 (ANI): Residents of 103 illegal flats on the Campa Cola compound in Worli area of Mumbai on Tuesday protested against forcible eviction by the Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) of the building. MCGM had earlier issued eviction notices last week stating that the illegal structure will be brought down any time after November 12. Meanwhile, Mumbai police too warned the residents not to create any law and order problem during the process. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan refused to intervene and issue an ordinance to stop the demolition.
