Khurshid calls Narendra Modi 'impotent', Politicos condemn

New Delhi, Feb 26 (ANI): Continuing the war of words between Congress and BJP, Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid called Narendra Modi 'impotent' thereby inviting criticism form other political leaders. Former SP leader Shahid Siddiqui condemned the statement and said that such words should not be used by a politician. Meanwhile, condemning the same, BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said that this is Congress' desperation and frustration of losing in the upcoming general elections.

Land grabbing case filed against Union Minister Jitendra Singh

Jaipur, Feb 26 (ANI): Union Minister if state for defence Jitendra Singh has been accused of illegally getting a public land transferred in his name at a village in Alwar district. ACB DG Manoj Bhatt said that the complaint was from an RTI activist and that a few misinterpretation of facts resulted in court's judgement in favor of Singh previously. Bhatt said that future course of action will depend on the report of investigation.

SC says fatwas cannot be forced on people, Muslim politicos welcome move

New Delhi, Feb 26 (ANI): After Supreme Court ordered that fatwas issued by Muslim clerics cannot be forced on people and that state has to protect persons harassed for the same, muslim politicos welcomed the move. Former Samajwadi Party leader Shahid Siddiqui said that fatwa is an opinion and there is no obligation to it. Meanwhile, Kamal Farooqui said that those Muslims who are ready to go by the fatwas are not wrong, but on the same place welcomed the apex court's decision.

Paramilitary forces kill Maoist in 'red corridor' region

Gumla/ Visakhapatnam, Feb 26 (ANI): In a joint operation paramilitary forces and police killed a Maoist in "red rebel hotbed" of Gumla district in Jharkhand. Acting on a tip-off by sources, police launched a joint operation with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and killed one Maoist in a fierce gunbattle. The area lies on the red corridor that is worst affected by Maoist violence. Meanwhile, in an another incident in port city of Vishakhapatnam, Maoists attacked a village and killed a headman of the area.

Bombay HC questions on repeated paroles for Sanjay Dutt

Mumbai, Feb 26 (ANI): The Bombay high court questioned the parole extension for actor Sanjay Dutt. Lawyer Nikhil Chaudhary, who filed Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against parole granted to Dutt, clarified that the petition was not against the actor but he was addressing larger issues of equality. The court has also sought all papers based on which the paroles have been granted. The court also criticised the state government of Maharashtra for discriminating between Bollywood actor and other convicts. Dutt was sentenced to five years jail by the Supreme Court in 2013 for possession of illegal weapons in a case linked to the 1993 Mumbai bombings.

TNA supporters protest against SC's stay on release of Rajiv Gandhi assassins

Chennai, Feb 26 (ANI): The supporters of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) took to streets in Chennai against Supreme Court's stay on release of three convicts in Rajiv Gandhi's assassination case. Police in Chennai detained few of the protesters, who were shouting anti-Congress slogans, to bring the situation under control. Members of the regional Tamil National Alliance (TNA) supported Jayalalithaa's decision of releasing the three convicts after the apex court commuted their death sentence to a life term. The government also filed a petition at the Supreme Court arguing that Jayalalithaa's government did not have the power to free the ethnic Tamil convicts.

Kashmir: Army kills 7 militants, recovers arms and ammunition

Kupwara, Feb 26 (ANI): Indian Army recovered large quantities of arms and ammunition from seven militants who were killed during an encounter between the Indian Army and militants in forest area of Kashmir. Security has been beefed up as more militants are believed to be hiding in the forest area. Major General, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Kilo Force, SK Saini said that seven AK series weapons were recovered. On specific information, 18 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation in Dardpora forests of Lolab, Saini added. Saini added that the documents recovered from the dead militants indicated that they belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
