Police nab Maoist leader in Jharkhand

Latehar, Jan 19 (ANI): Acting on a tip off, Police in Jharkhand nabbed a Maoist leader and recovered arms from him. The Maoist was arrested from hotbed area of Latehar district in Jharkhand. Police said that the arrested person was an operative of a Maoist outfit, People’s Liberation Front (PLF).

Kejriwal's dharna will bring backward counting for AAP: Meem Afzal

New Delhi, Jan 20 (ANI): As Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is all set to sit in dharna in protest of inaction against Delhi police, Congress leader Meem Afzal said that the dhrana will bring the backward counting for AAP and the people will decide on party's fate. Further, Afzal said that any issue is to be solved on the table and not on the streets and asked Kejriwal to use the power he is given for the purpose. He also questioned on who will govern the national capital if the government sits on protest.

New Delhi, Jan 20 (ANI): As Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's dharna is set to begin on Monday, Delhi Congress Women's wing President Onika Mehrotra said that Kejriwal is not aware of the conduct of a chief minister. Mehrotra said that his ministers are mis-behaving with foreign women and termed it as a mockery of democracy. She also said that Kejriwal should better fulfill the promises he made to the voters and think about the safety and security of women.

Pak border trade suspended after contraband haul in Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir, Jan 20 (ANI): India suspended border trade with Pakistan after police recovered a truck containing 114 packets of suspected brown sugar in Kashmir. The police recovered the packets from a truck said to be containing bags of almonds which was coming from Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, Baramulla range, Jaipal Singh addressed media persons and said the Pakistan authorities have refused to take back the trucks, which indicates that they had some knowledge of the contents of these bags. Singh added this is one of the biggest drug hauls in Kashmir.

Indian Coast Guard progresses on Tamil fishermen issues

Chennai, Jan 20 (ANI): Inspector General of Indian Coast Guard, Satya Prakash Sharma briefed mediapersons regarding the issues of Tamil fishermen. Sharma said that though the Indian coast guard has arrested Sri Lankan fishermen for illegal fishing in Indian waters on several occasions, they are more often let off after serving their jail term or are exchanged in lieu of the Indian fishermen who are held captive by the Sri Lankan forces. Sharma had earlier stated that a total of 52 Sri Lankan fishermen were handed over and now 151 fishermen remain with India.

Odisha, Jan 20 (ANI): Union Home Affairs Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said that he would soon send an advisory letter to the Chief Ministers of states asking them to form a committee to scrutinise cases of detention of 'minority people'. Shinde was addressing media persons on the sideline of the Ninth Raising Day of National Disaster Response Force in Odisha. Shinde said that he had earlier written a similar letter to the chief ministers of the states requesting them to look into the cases of various under trial 'minority prisoners' and release them if not found guilty.

New Delhi, Jan 20 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday is all set to sit on dharna outside the Home Ministry office in protest of no action taken against Delhi cops for their negligence in drug and sex rackets in the national capital. With the dharna on place, commuters will have a tough time as the four metro stations, that is, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhavan and Race Course will remain closed from 9 am to 1 pm.
