Fire engulfs slum area in Bhopal

Bhopal, May 30 (ANI): Raging inferno broke out in a slum cluster in Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh on Friday gutting several hutments, police officials said. The blaze was reported at the slum in Bhopal around late night and around 8 fire tenders were pressed into service. The fire has now been brought under control and there are no reports of casualties. Cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, official added. Reportedly, major loss of property is expected due to fire. However, no loss of life has been reported so far.

PM Narendra Modi refuses to be part of school curriculum

New Delhi, May 30 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday tweeted that he did not wish his biography to be included as part of school curriculum. Modi’s reaction followed reports of Rajasthan government considering incorporating Modi's life story as part of educational curriculum. Modi tweeted, “I firmly believe that the life story of living individuals should not be included as a part of the school curriculum. India has a rich history of several stalwarts who made India what it is today. Young minds should read about these greats & emulate them.” Earlier, Rajasthan Education Minister Kali Charan Saraf had said that he would consider incorporating Modi's biography in school text books, if the latter became the Prime Minister after the general elections.

Police bust militant hideout, recover arms & ammunitions in J&K

Doda, May 30 (ANI): Police busted a militant hideout and recovered a huge cache of explosives, arms and ammunition from a forest area in Jammu and Kashmir, said a senior officer. Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Sharif Chouhan, said it was one of the biggest recoveries in the recent past in Doda district of the state. Acting on a tip-off, police launched combing in the forest area and busted the militant hideout in a natural cave. The restive region has witnessed numerous militant attacks, insurgency, and infiltration attempts from across the border in the last two decades.

People in Maoist-hit Rayagada pins hope on Modi govt for security

Rayagada, May 30 (ANI): People living in Maoist-affected Rayagada district of Odisha banked on newly formed central government for safety and security. Residents of Maoist-affected villages said they were expecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led union government to take concrete steps against Maoists in the region. People complained that the district was neglected during Congress party’s regime and hoped for better future. Even though the Congress party introduced many developmental schemes related to agriculture, irrigation, communication, food security and consumer welfare sanctions, people were unhappy with improper implementation.

Kolkata sweet shop display FIFA World Cup trophy replica made of sweets

Kolkata, May 30 (ANI): A sweets shop in Kolkata city of West Bengal made a replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy from sweets as soccer lovers await the start of mega event. While the original World Cup trophy is made of gold and two rings of malachite stones, the trophy in Kolkata meanwhile, is made from traditional sweet called kheer (rice pudding). The owner of the sweet shop, Sudip Mallick, said Kolkata is football crazy city and this replica was made for the people to enjoy the sport, which is scheduled to start from June 12. The customers seemed really pleased with Mallick’s replica of the World Cup. Pamela Indu, a customer, said the sport is very popular at her house and she feels such replicas will instill interest in the minds of children towards the sport.

Blast in Imphal claims two lives

Imphal, May 30 (ANI): At least two persons were killed and six others injured when a bomb exploded in Manipur. The explosion took place at Singjamei Chinga Makhong in capital Imphal. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Clay Khongsai, said it was Improvised explosive device (IED) blast. After visiting the injured persons in the hospital, Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh suspected that bomb was denoted to target migrant workers in the town. All the injured have been admitted in Imphal hospital.

Sachin Tendulkar launches BMW X5 in India

Pune, May 30 (ANI): Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar launched the BMW third generation X5 car which would be produced in Chennai plant of the German luxury car maker and will be ready for sale from June. Tendulkar said he has been using the first generation X5 since 2002 and has had a delightful experience with the vehicle. At the launch, BMW Group India President Philipp von Sahr said the diesel variant of the new X5 has more space and improved fuel economy.
