Jaswant Singh has no plan to form a new party, or join anyone, says his wife

Jaisalmer, Mar 30 (ANI): Expelled BJP leader Jaswant Singh’s wife Sheetal Kanwar, on Sunday gave her reviews about the BJP and its attitude towards her husband. Kanwar said that the party is a building prepared by some senior leaders and if even one of its founders is removed, it will not stand. Sheetal Kanwar specifically termed the elections as a game of respect instead of success or failure and also expressed her unhappiness with BJP leader Nitin Gadkari. Kanwar further stated that BJP has exposed itself and clarified that Jaswant Singh is not planning to form a new or join another party.

103 year old Sarmaya Chettri all set to practice her franchise in 2014 general elections

Jalpaiguri, March 30 (ANI): A 103-year-old Indian woman Sarmaya Chettri from Jalpaiguri in West Bengal has joined poll fervour as she is all set to cast her vote in the upcoming 2014 general elections. What makes Chhetri special is that she is among the first Indians to cast vote since 1951 when India first went to polls. Expressing her happiness for being witness to all the historic elections of India, she asked the government to arrange for her transportation that would ferry her to the polling station for exercising her franchise. Her son, who had been accompanying her to the polling stations during all elections that she had witnessed through her life span till date, spoke about the significance of casting vote.

Arvind Kejriwal holds road show for Gul Panag in Chandigarh

Youth get training to make bamboo products in Manipur

Imphal, March 30 (ANI): All together 30 trainees are undergoing a one-month residential artisans' training programme on bamboo handicraft and furniture at the Naoremthong Laishram Khulem Leikai Community Hall in Imphal. The training programme is organized jointly by the Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre, Burnihat Assam and Lifeline Development Organisation and State Bamboo Mission, Manipur. The objective is to make the youth self-reliant and provide them a source of income. These youth are quite happy to learn new bamboo crafts and designs, under master trainers from Assam, Tripura and Manipur.

Maoists in Bastar threaten people to boycott general elections

Bastar, Mar 30 (ANI): As India prepares for mammoth general elections that are just a week away, Maoists in ‘red corridor’ of Bastar district of Chhattisgarh held a Jan Adalat on Saturday (March 29), asking villagers to boycott polls. The red rebels held a rally in the dense forests of the region and threatened not to vote. Not only the villagers, the politicians and candidates are also under the constant threat of Maoists, who are braving the situation and are working to encourage people to vote. A big challenge being faced by security officials is the holding of polls without any troubles or disruptions. The Maoists say they are fighting for the rights of millions of landless tribal people. Apart from prisoner releases, the Maoists have also demanded an end to tourism in parts of the state where many tribes exist. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has previously described the Maoist insurgency as India's biggest internal security challenge.

Three-day Cultural Dance Fest in Manipur

Imphal, March 30 (ANI): The three day cultural dance festival - Chhau Parva is drawing large audience to the Imphal city of Manipur. The festival is being held for the first time in the province and has been organized by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama in association with Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur dance Academy of Manipur. The Director of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) Upendro Sharma explained what Chhau dance form is all about. The festival was inaugurated by the Governor of Manipur Vinod Kumar Duggal in the presence of Vice Chairman of JNMDA N Tombi Singh and Director Sharma himself. The festival was kick started on Saturday with six dance performances.

Bangladesh celebrates its 43rd Independence Day

More than 2 hundred thousand people from various walks of life including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came together in Dhaka to collectively sing the national anthem ‘Aamar Sonar Bangla’. On 26 March 1971 the independence of Bangladesh was declared by the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Liberation War began. The people of the country are now seeking a ban on the Jamaat-e-Islami for its involvement in crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War. The young generation in Bangladesh clearly wants a government and a society that promotes pluralistic Bengali culture not hatred. Progressive Bangladeshis believe that continuing to allow the Jamaat to participate in political activism is an abuse of the very principles on which Bangladesh was formed.
