Indian community welfare funds transferred to our mission in Iraq: MEA

New Delhi, June 29 (ANI): Briefing on the Iraq crisis, MEA Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin on Sunday said that Indian community welfare funds (ICWF) have been transferred to India's mission in Iraq. He said that certain parts of the funds will be used in assisting the Indian nationals stranded in the violence hit country. Akbaruddin also talked about Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj's meeting with the ambassadors of the gulf countries. He further assured that all Indians in Iraq are safe and that all financial assistance will be provided wherever needed.

Sunanda Tharoor case: Subramanian Swamy urges govt to expedite probe

New Delhi, June 29 (ANI): BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, has sent legal notice to the government to expedite investigation into the mysterious death of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's wife, alleging involvement of few politicians. In January 2014, wife of Tharoor, 52-year-old Sunanda Pushkar, was found dead in a New Delhi hotel after she sent out tweets suggesting he (Tharoor) was involved in an affair with a Pakistan-based journalist. Swamy might ask the court to monitor the investigation, if the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) - conglomerate of BJP and its allies - government failed. Swamy claimed that autopsy suggested sudden and unnatural death.

Rajnath Singh visits Jagannath Temple in Delhi

New Delhi/ Puri, June 29 (ANI): Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday visited the Jagannath Temple in Delhi and offered prayers. Earlier, Gujarat Chief Minister Anadiben Patel flagged off the annual Jagannath Yatra with prayers for a good monsoon as thousands of devotees thronged to seek the blessings of deities. Assam flood water level decreases, although currents still dangerous: CWC

Lakhimpur, June 29 (ANI): Lives of over 2000 people living in villages of Lakhimpur district in Assam were affected by floods, which is gradually decreasing after rains lashed through the region for last four days. Despite a reduction in the water level in the Nimati Ghat area in Assam, officials said the water currents are still very strong and prone to electrical hazards. Five districts of Assam were hit by flash floods due to incessant rains on Friday. The team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has evacuated nearly 10,000 people, who are taking shelter in five relief camps set up by the government.

Chennai building collapse: 28 rescued so far, Vaiko visits site

Chennai, June 29 (ANI): According to latest updates in the Chennai under copnmstruction building collapse, authorities said that nine people have died, while 28 labourers are rescued after being trapped in the wreckage. Sridharan, additional principal secretary, state relief commissionor said that yet there was no clear detail about number of people trapped inside. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayaram Jayalalithaa, had said in a statement that she was deeply saddened by the news of the collapse and has ordered the police to monitor operations at the scene. Meanwhile, MDMK Chief Vaiko visited the site and said that this is a terrible strategy and probe must be conducted on whether the guidleines were followed or not.

UGC permits 4 year B Tech course for students enrolled in 2013

New Delhi, June 29 (ANI): In what can be called as a breather for the B Tech students enrolled in courses last year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has permitted the Delhi University to continue with the course that the students enrolled for in 2013. Several B Tech and BMS students protested outside the residence of Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani on Sunday. Earlier, DU had scrapped its four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP), and reverted to the previous 3-year structure under pressure for the UGC. Earlier, the DU had decided to discontinue its B Tech and Bachelor in Management Studies (BMS) courses and to not hold any fresh admissions to them.
