BJP demands dismissal of SP government in UP over 'unlawful' police action

Lucknow, July 1 (ANI): The BJP on Tuesday staged a protest in Lucknow against the "unlawful and unwarranted" police action on its youth workers and demanded dismissal of the Samajwadi Party (SP) led government in Uttar Pradesh. BJP's District head, Manohar Singh said the party will submit a memorandum to the Governor of the state, Aziz Qureshi, seeking dismissal of the SP government. Earlier on Monday Police had fired water cannons and baton charged the youth workers of BJP, protesting against Samajwadi Party (SP) government over deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. The irate youth workers of BJP came out in droves to protest outside the state assembly in Lucknow and shouted anti-government slogans.

Syed Akbaruddin on Iraq Crisis

New Delhi, July 1 (ANI): MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin on Tuesday said that the nurses from Kerala struck in Iraq's conflict zone remain safe and unharmed. However, he added that there has been bombing and firing in the vicinity. Akbaruddin also said that the Indian government is working in coordination with the Iraqi agencies to ensure safe evacuation of the Indian nationals struck in the violence hit country.

Laurent Fabius meets PM Narendra Modi, invites him to France

New Delhi, July 1 (ANI): French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as defense, trade and investment with India expressing keenness on setting up industrial bases for it to boost ties. The visiting minister also extended his President Francois Hollande's invitation to Modi to visit France. Politicians take a jibe at Modi-led NDA govt over spiralling inflation

Chennai building collapse death toll reaches 29, rescue operation intensifies

Chennai, July 1 (ANI): Rescuers on Tuesday intensified search operation and recovered a total of 29 bodies from the debris of an 11-storey under-construction building that collapsed in Chennai on Saturday. According to reports 26 persons have been taken out alive from the debris. Improved technologies like drones have been deployed for tracing the bodies of the trapped workers. On Sunday Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu had announced an ex-gratia of rupees 500,000 each to the family of workers from his province who were killed in the mishap.

France proposes 1 billion euro credit line for India projects

New Delhi/ Gurgaon, July 1 (ANI): France proposed to give India a one billion euro credit line to fund sustainable infrastructure and urban development projects, Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on Tuesday. The credit line would be available over three years and would be delivered through the French Development Agency, Fabius told reporters in New Delhi. India, which has said it needs $1 trillion of investment by 2017 to upgrade its creaking infrastructure, is keen to attract foreign development agencies and companies to help finance new roads, railways and cities.
