AG says Congress not Eligible to Claim LoP Post, Congress reacts

New Delhi, July 26 (ANI): Attorney General (AG) Mukul Rohatgi sent his opinion on the Leader of Opposition post to the Lok Sabha Speaker and said the Congress party was not eligible for it. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had sought the opinion of the AG in the issue after the Congress repeatedly demanded that it be given the post. Reacting over this, Congress leader Manish Tewari on Saturday said that the Congress being the second largest political party is entitled to hold the position of Leader of opposition. Tewari also said that the Attorney general also in his opinion has alluded to a convention which is by no stretch is statuary rule which needs to be broken.

Govt in WB takes measures to tackle Japanese encephalitis

Siliguri/ Howrah, July 26 (ANI): The government of West Bengal took preventive measures as three more deaths occurred due to Japanese encephalitis in the state. Three deaths were reported from North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) in Siliguri district. The disease, which is spreading slowly across other regions, has claimed more than 50 lives in West Bengal. However, NBMCH said the situation was under control. Earlier Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) spread bleaching powders, conducted fogging at the piggeries and held awareness campaigns. Meanwhile, Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, said leaves of doctors and other medical staff were cancelled and a _remove pigs movement_ has been started.

Iranian ambassador to India says Muslims should help Palestinians

Agra / New Delhi, July 26 (ANI): Iranian ambassador to India, Ghulam Raza Ansari, called on Muslims across the world to help Palestinians to have their own land as death toll passed 800. Muslims in Agra protested against Israeli attacks on Gaza. Muslims held protests outside Fatehpur Sikri mosque demanding politicians to stand by their ideologies and send a clear message to Israel to stop offensive. Meanwhile, Muslims in New Delhi also protested against the continous bombardment by Israel on Gaza. The protest was held outside the principle mosque of Delhi, Jama Masjid. Protesters burnt Israeli flag and prayed for people of Palestine during the holy month of Ramadan.

IAF helicopter crashes in Uttar Pradesh, 7 dead

Sitapur, July 26 (ANI): A helicopter of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh killing all seven people on board, including two pilots. According to reports, the advanced landing chopper-307 was on its way to Allahabad from Bareilly when it crashed in a field in village Ahirwa in Sitapur district, around 70 Kms away from Lucknow. The pilot gave a _may-day_ (emergency) call and soon after, there was a loss of contact on radar and radio. There is no reported damage on ground. Reportedly, eleven helicopters belonging to the armed forces have crashed in the past three years.

Arun Jaitley, armed forces heads pay tribute to Kargil martyrs at India Gate

New Delhi/ Kargil, July 26 (ANI): Defence Minister Arun Jaitley and heads of all three wings of the Indian armed forces paid tribute to the martyrs at the India Gate, who laid down their life for the nation in the 1999 Kargil conflict with Pakistan. Jaitley along with Army Chief General Bikram Singh, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha and Chief of the Naval Staff RK Dhowan paid homage to the martyred soldiers at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate in Delhi on Saturday. Each year since 1999, the _Kargil Vijay Diwas_ is celebrated on July 26 every year to mark the exit of Pakistan Army from Indian territory and Indian Army bunkers captured by them. On _Vijay Diwas_ the nation remembers the soldiers who laid down their lives in the cold desert of Ladakh, fighting to reclaim every inch of their motherland.

Teacher arrested for brutally thrashing 13-year-old student in West Bengal

Howrah, July 26 (ANI): A teacher of St. Aloysius School in West Bengal was arrested for beating up a 13-year-old boy black and blue during class hours for borrowing pen. The student of eighth standard sustained severe injuries on shoulder and is suffering from high fever. Father of the teenager, Deepak Khater, said the teacher beat his son with steel scale. Meanwhile, school in-charge, Sister Hilda, said the school authorities were unaware of the incident but will suspend the teacher with immediate effect. Complaint was registered at Golabari police station of Howrah district.

Army defuses eight live bombs in Kashmir

R.S. Pura, July 26 (ANI): Eight live bombs were recovered in RS Pura area in Jammu and Kashmir. The explosives were old and recovered after villagers in the area found them and informed the bomb squad. Security personnel of Indian Army_s Bomb Disposal Squad, along with the police and paramilitary, Border Security Force (BSF), reached the spot to defuse the bombs. People living at the border areas have been suffering huge losses because of the exchange of fire between India and Pakistan as their livestock and houses have also been damaged.

Kathmandu, July 26 (ANI): Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj, who is in Nepal for a three-day visit said the neighbouring country was top priority for the government. Swaraj will co-chair third meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission, which is taking place after 23 years. The commission is expected to review the entire range of bilateral relations. During her visit, she will also meet her Nepalese counterpart Mahendra Bahadur Pandey. Swaraj hoped her visit would boost India-Nepal ties. The meeting will hold discussions in five different clusters -political, security and border issues; economic co-operation and infrastructure; trade and transit; power and water resources. Twenty-seven officers each from Nepal and India would participate in the commission_s meeting.

Amarnath Yatra spurs tourism in Kashmir as well

Srinagar, July 26 (ANI): The Hindu cave shrine of Amarnath, located in a Himalayan glacial valley, spurred tourism in Kashmir as pilgrims throng the mountainous terrain during the ongoing pilgrimage. The holy Amarnath cave is situated at a height of approximately 4,000 meters, which has four ice formations considered figurines of different Hindu gods. Amarnath is a 150 feet high and 90 feet long cave located nearly 145 km from summer capital, Srinagar. Pilgrims are not only going to the shrine, but are also coming in large numbers to take a trip of the valley and enjoy the picturesque views, grasp the freshness of the meadows, the hills and the rivers and to beat the heat.
