Hospitals keep fingers crossed struggling to save GAIL blast victims

East Godavari, June 28 (ANI): Hospital staff worked tirelessly round the clock and kept fingers crossed on Saturday to save the lives of the burnt victims of the GAIL gas pipeline blast in Andhra Pradesh. Fourteen people were killed and 20 injured on Friday in a fire that broke out on a stretch of pipeline running through East Godavari district, engulfing buildings and burning victims to death. The Apollo hospital in Kakinada has received eight of the burn victims, out of which five suffer 100 per cent burns and their survival chances are slim. Hospital staff also said that they are taking all necessary measures to ensure that relatives of the victims are updated on the status of their loved ones.

Maoists attack civilian jeep in Latehar, injure four

Latehar, June 28 (ANI): Maoists attacked a civilian jeep carrying a pregnant lady back from the hospital in red corridor Latehar district of Jharkhand on Saturday that left four injured. According to the injured people, the insurgents started firing blindly at the jeep which went on for nearly an hour. The residents of Latehar also explained what they saw during the Maoist attack which took place around 11 at night. The Maoist issue in India has become a serious concern for the state administrations as it has been taking toll on lives and properties in many states across India.

Multi-storey building in Chennai collapses, several feared trapped

Chennai, June 28 (ANI): At least 50 people were fear trapped as a multi-storey under construction building at Moulivakkam near Porur collapsed following rain. Mugalivakkam, a suburb of Chennai, is situated 16 km south-west of Chennai on the Guindy-Mount-Poonamallee road. Many construction workers are feared trapped. About 10 fire tenders are at the spot for rescue operations. The National Disaster Management team from Arakkonam were being rushed to the construction site. Further details are awaited.

Puri gears up for Jagannath Yatra amid traditional fervour

Puri, June 28 (ANI): Puri is all geared up to host the countless devotees arriving from across the globe to celebrate the world famous annual Jagannath Yatra or the Chariot Festival amid traditional rituals, pomp and religious fervour. Vice President Hamid Ansari visits Great Wall of China

Beijing, June 28 (ANI): On his third day in Beijing, India's Vice President Hamid Ansari visited the Great Wall of China, along with Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Nirmala Sitharaman and other Indian officials. Ansari, who is on a five-day visit to Beijing, will also participate in a trilateral summit with host China and Myanmar on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Panchsheel agreement. This is the first visit of an Indian leader to China after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office last month. While addressing media onboard, Ansari had said that the central government was concerned over widening trade imbalance with China, even as trade between two south Asian neighbours is increasing.

Five killed in Alang recycling yard blast, injured taken to hospital

Bhavnagar, June 28 (ANI): Five labourers were killed and seven others injured in a gas leak and explosion at Alang ship recycling yard in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat on Saturday. The incident took place when the workers were breaking a ship on plot number 140 of the Alang recycling yard. The injured are shifted to nearby hospital, though a relative of the victim said that the authorities didn’t provide any help whatsoever. The police have initiated a probe into whether the rules for cutting a ship were violated in this case. Further details on cause of the blast will be clear after forensic reports come.
