Nearly 100 students in Gujarat forced to swim to school daily

Gujarat, Aug 04 (ANI): Nearly 100 students have to swim through a river everyday to attend the nearest school in Gujarat - one of the developed states of India and home of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Boys and girls from 16 tribal villages in Narmada District swim to cross the 600 metre wide river Hiran and then walk for another five kilometres to reach the Utavadi village where the nearest school is located. While crossing the river, they carry a large utensil that helps them to stay afloat and contains their uniform and bags. But girls are forced to go through their classes with wet uniforms throughout the day.

Village evacuated in Maharashtra in anticipation of landslide

Ambegaon, Aug 04 (ANI): The government of Maharashtra evacuated a village anticipating landslide, considering the deadly disaster in Malin district of the state that claimed more than 90 human lives. The decision was taken up with the aim of preventing further loss of human lives in the disaster prone areas. Villagers of Kalewadi village seeing the cracks in the land of the village and the walls of their houses immediately complied with the government and evacuated their houses. They are being provided with all basic facilities in the nearby village they have been shifted to. Farmers of the village are still working in the village in the mornings, residents informed.

Action to be taken against officials arrested in Glasgow if allegations proved

New Delhi/Bangalore, Aug 04 (ANI): Appropriate action will be taken against the two Indian officials if reports of their misbehaviour on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow are proved, Union Minister for Sports, Sarbananda Sonowal, said. Two top officials of Indian Olympic Association (IOA), general secretary, Rajiv Mehta, and wrestling referee, Virender Malik, were arrested in Glasgow on Saturday on separate charges. Sarbananda Sonowal, promised action against the two, if found guilty. Former Indian athlete, Ashwani Nachappa, demanded the federal sports ministry to consider the matter very seriously.

Bihar cannot fight problems like flood alone, needs special status: JD (U)

New Delhi, Aug (ANI): JD (U) leader Ali Anwar on Monday said that problems like flood threat have become common in Bihar. Anwar said that Bihar is a poor and backward state so it cannot fight the problems alone and thus needs the co-operation of Central government. Modi holds talks with his Nepalese counterpart, interacts with common people

Kathmandu, Aug 04 (ANI): Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, held delegation-level talks with his Nepalese counterpart, Sushil Koirala in Kathmandu during which both the countries signed agreements to deepen cooperation in economic, security and hydropower. Modi_s visit is likely to help speed up negotiations on a power trade pact that is at the centre of a new effort to improve ties with a neighbour that serves as a buffer with China. Modi also interacted and shook hands with common people after addressing the Nepal constituent assembly in Kathmandu.
