Only one man's voice seems to count for anything: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Aug 6 (ANI): In an unusual show of protest in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday rushed to the well of the Lok Sabha, accusing the Speaker of bias and later told reporters that there is a mood in Parliament that only one man's voice counts for anything in this country. Rahul's barb at Prime Minister Narendra Modi came after his party disrupted the Lok Sabha, demanding a discussion on communal violence in Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan turned down the Congress request, provoking allegations of bias from the Congress vice president.

Amarnath Yatra enters last leg as 'Chari Mubarak' leaves for Amarnath

Srinagar, Aug 6 (ANI): The Amarnath Yatra entered its last leg as 'Chari Mubarak', the holy mace of Lord Shiva, today left for the 3,880 meter high holy cave shrine in south Kashmir. Meanwhile, lakhs of pilgrims have paid obeisance to the ice-lingam.The saffron-robed mace was taken from its 'Dashnami Akhara' abode at Budshah Chowk here to Pahalgam by a group of priests and pilgrims led by its custodian Mahant Deependra Giri. The Chari Mubarak will be offered prayers at various temples en route to Pahalgam, which serves as the traditional base camp for the annual pilgrimage.

Suspension of government officials over borewell incident sparks protest in Karnataka

Bagalkot, Aug 6 (ANI): Officials of Panchayat Development Office protested against suspension of their colleagues on charges of negligence over falling of a six-year-old boy in a borewell in Karnataka on Wednesday. The boy, Thimanna, had fallen into an open borewell at a farm in Bagalkot district of the province on Sunday. The employees of Panchayat (village body) Development Office sat outside the office of Superintendent of Police and demanded that charges should be taken back.

There were no charges against me: IOA General Secretary Rajeev Mehta

New Delhi, Aug 6 (ANI): Indian Olympic Association (IOA) General Secretary Rajeev Mehta, who was arrested in Glasgow on charges of alleged drunken driving, on Wednesday said that there were no charges against him. He was on his way back home after returning from the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. On August 3, Scotland Police had arrested Mehta for driving in a drunken state while wrestling referee Virender Malik was booked for sexual assault but the charges were later dropped against them.

10 Indian nurses reach Kochi from strife-torn Libya

Kochi, Aug 6 (ANI): Another batch of 10 Indian nurses from Libya arrived on Wednesday by a special flight, a day after 44 nurses reached Kochi from the strife- torn country. Cattle smuggler from Bangladesh killed in gun battle in West Bengal

South Dinajpur, Aug 6 (ANI): A Bangladeshi national, allegedly a cattle smuggler, was killed by the BSF in South Dinajpur district of West Bengal. Raju Mandal, a resident of Jaipurhut district in Bangladesh, was killed on Tuesday at Mathurapure area of Indo-Bangladesh border in the district. The incident occurred when around 25-30 Bangladeshi smugglers, who entered India from a temporary fencing area, tried to cross over to India with more than 100 cattle. The BSF personnel tried stopping them, but were instead attacked. As a result, the BSF fired eight rounds of Pump Action Gun (PAG) which injured Mandal, who was declared dead at a hospital. After the incident, the BSF and three Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officers rushed to the spot and held a flag meeting, where the BGB accepted the deceased as a citizen of their country.

Rescue operation continues to take out six-year-old boy from borewell in Karnataka

Bagalkot, Aug 6 (ANI): Deputy Commissioner of Bagalkot district in Karnataka, PA Meghannavar, said the rescue operations of a six-year-old boy from a bore well will take few more days. Speaking to media persons, Meghannavar said that they are yet to dig over 110 feet as the child is stuck at 160 feet. He added that he can_t find any movement of the child inside the well but assured it was because there was no food or energy for the child. Authorities have intensified the rescue operations to save the six-year-old boy, who accidentally fell into a borewell in his father_s farm on Sunday.

18 missing, 22 rescued as boat capsizes in Varanasi

Varanasi, Aug 6 (ANI): In a tragic incident in Varanasi, a boat drowned into river Ganges on Tuesday. The District Magistrate (DM) Pranjal Yadav, informed that 40 people were on board in which 22 people have been rescued and 18 are still missing.
