Saradha Scam: Court extends CBI custody of Sandhir Agarwal

Kolkata, Aug 27 (ANI): The High Court in Kolkata has extended the CBI custody of city-based businessman Sandhir Aggarwal who was arrested for his alleged role in the Saradha chit fund scam. His lawyer said that they tried to get him out on bail but the Court extended his CBI custody till September 1. Agarwal is suspected to have acted as a middleman with SEBI and other regulatory bodies for Saradha Group Chief Sudipto Sen and shielded him from action, according to CBI sources. Aug 27, 2014

Uproar in Kashmir assembly over resolution seeking Indo Pak talks

Srinagar, Aug 27 (ANI): Opposition parties in Jammu and Kashmir created uproar in the state assembly on Wednesday over tabling of the resolution seeking Indo-Pak talks. Peace dialogue between India and Pakistan suffered a setback following Islamabad's decision to consult Kashmiri separatist leaders ahead of the foreign-secretary level talks between the two south Asian neighbours. President of Ruling Party of Kashmir, National Conference (NC), Devender Singh Rana, said that he was ashamed of the behaviour of certain political parties. India called off the bilateral dialogue with Pakistan, which was scheduled for August 25, after Islamabad's envoy Abdul Basit courted Kashmiri separatists ahead of the foreign secretary-level talks. BEL and HAVELLS were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 20.00% and 8.60% along with TORRENT POWER LTD. and JAIN IRRIGATION SYSTEMS LTD. with an increase of 6.96% and 6.03% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include UCO BANK and BHUSHAN STEEL LTD. with a decrease of 7.98% and 4.99% along with DLF and ADANIPORTS with a decrease of 4.33% and 3.32% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 132.99 points at 17,243.95 while the banking sector is up 90.87 points at 17,986.64 and the reality sector is down 24.69 points at 1,760.34. Politicos react as report blames former UPA govt for coal scam

New Delhi/Lucknow, Aug 27 (ANI): A follow up report by Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India dealing with illegalities in coal scam got mixed reviews from politicians on Wednesday as it blamed the previous UPA government for tampering with the recommendations made by a screening committee in 2007 for allocation of coal blocks. Congress leader Manish Tewari said that for sixteen long years there were many Prime Ministers who allocated coal blocks, seeing that only a certain individual cannot be blamed. BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said that Manmohan Singh's government will be accountable for the mistakes it has made for coming ten years as well. Maner, Aug 27 (ANI): The last rites of Martyr Lance Naik Dhananjay Kumar took place at his hometown in Maner district of Bihar with full respect on Wednesday. Kumar was killed in an encounter with militants in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir and his body reached Patna late on Tuesday. Mourning on his death, his father said that he is not grieved on his son's death and that Kumar was son of Mother India. He also appeled the central government to take revenge from Pakistan.
