J&K Floods: Relief work has picked up, says Army

Udhampur: Addressing the media in Udhampur, Northern Army Commander, Lt Gen DS Hooda said that as the weather has improved from two days and rains have come to halt, the relief work has picked up in the flood-hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that around 20,000 people have been rescued and their priority is to rescue the people stranded in their houses and provide them with the relief supplies. He also said that they are working with the civil administration for restoration of electricity connection and water supplies in the valley.

Railway Minister says passenger safety & security is key concern

New Delhi, Sep 08 (ANI): Hailing the 100 days of Modi government in power, India's Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda said on Monday that focusing on core issues like safety and security of passengers was the main agenda followed by cleanliness and providing amenities. Gowda was addressing mediapersons in New Delhi where he gave the report card of Railway Ministry during 100 days of governance. Gowda said that with focus on improving safety, Railway Board held a series of meetings to review recommendations on various technological aspects aimed at examining the recommendations in regard to their feasibility and implementation.

Party will ask for clarification from Dagar: Satish Upadhyay on AAP sting

New Delhi, Sept 08 (ANI): Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday presented the report card of the first 100 days of her ministry. Talking to mediapersons in New Delhi, Swaraj said that the Modi government's foreign policy is marked by both strength and sensitivity. Swaraj said the Centre's tough stand with Pakistan over its hobnobbing with Kashmiri separatists and with the US over spying on the BJP were examples of a strong foreign policy. She said that the first three months of the new government were very difficult but nonetheless they worked hard. On the challenges of diplomacy Swaraj held the view that it teaches one how to better ties with neighbours. Batting for the BJP-led NDA government she said that the government is proactive, strong and sensitive. Talking about her visits to Myanmar, Singapore and Vietnam and Modi's visit to Japan she said, that Look East is an important policy.The Foreign Affairs Minister also promised to open passport centres in Northeastern states by next year and organize camps in all districts.

Red Cross provides relief to flood victims in Kashmir

Rajouri , Sep 08 (ANI): The Red Cross came as a beacon of hope to the flood ravished people of Kashmir as officials distributed relief material to the affected victims. The Red Cross distributed relief material for the homeless in the flooded areas of Kalakote, Nowshera and Sunderbani in Rajouri district. More than 175 people lost their lives in the unprecedented floods and thousands were left homeless as Jhelum and other rivers overflowed their banks in Kashmir. Army regiments like the 425 Field Hospitals have set up relief camps in the state and have collaborated with district hospitals and NGOs to provide medical aid to the affected. People suffered huge losses as the incessant rainfall led to house collapse, damaging property worth lakhs.

Devotees bid adieu to Lord Ganesha

Mumbai/Pune, Sep 08 (ANI): Thousands of devotees in Mumbai on Monday bid farewell to Lord Ganesha, as they thronged to immerse the idol after completion of the 10-day festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. Mumbai witnessed a beeline of devotees with huge idols of Ganesha walking across streets or on trucks and other vehicles. Security measures were beefed up across the state as thousands of devotees took to streets to bid a colourful farewell to Ganesha. Ganesha is regarded and worshipped as an index of knowledge and also the harbinger of auspicious tidings. The annual festival of Ganesha Chaturthi usually falls between August and September.

Anticipatory bail granted to Karthik Gowda in rape and cheat case

Bangalore, Sep 08 (ANI): Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda’s son Karthik Gowda on Monday was granted anticipatory bail in the case of rape and cheating filed by a Kannada actress claiming to be her wife. Karthik Gowda’s lawyer said that the Court had granted anticipatory bail on various grounds produced before the Court by Gowda. He added that the Court’s order will be followed by the accused.

BSE closes points 293.15 up on September 8

New Delhi, Sept 8 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 293.15 points up to stand at 27,319.85. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 87.05 points up to stand at 8,173.90. TORRENT POWER LTD. and MRF were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 14.87% and 8.92% along with APOLLO TYRE and MAX with an increase of 8.32% and 7.10% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include J&KBANK and GLAXOSMITHKLINE CONSUMER HEALTHCARE LTD. with a decrease of 4.42% and 3.08% along with TTKPRESTIGE and SUN TV with a decrease of 2.65% and 2.38% at the close of the markets. A declaration for Independence of Balochistan

Quetta/ Geneva, Sep 08: The largest and resource-rich province of Pakistan, Balochistan, celebrate August 11 as its `Independence Day' and blames Pakistan for its illegal occupation since 1948. Facing poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and inequity, the people in Balochistan feel a deep sense of insecurity and disgruntlement against the Pakistan regime. SC grants Sahara Chief 15 days extension to finalize deals

New Delhi, Sep 08 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday allowed Sahara Chief Subrata Roy to stay in Tihar Conference Room for 15 more working days in order to finalize deals. His lawyer said that an application was submitted by Roy and relevant documents were provided before the Court observing which the Court granted extension. Roy had been allowed to stay in the conference room to enable him arrange Rs 10,000 crore as security to come out on bail. He has been in jail since March 4.
