IAF confident of rectifying technical defects of Sukhoi-30 aircraft

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha on Friday said the Indian Air Force have been able to pinpoint the technical defects in the Sukhoi-30 aircraft which resulted in a crash in Pune and the grounded fleet would soon soar above the skies. One Su-30 of the Indian Air Force (IAF) had crashed when both seats of the aircraft ejected as it was about to land on October 14. After the incident, IAF had grounded the whole fleet of Sukhoi-30 MKI fighters. Raha further added that they are going to start flying the aircraft in about a week. Allahabad HC orders AMU to allow undergraduate girls in central library

Allahabad, Nov 14 (ANI): The Allahabad High Court on Friday ordered the Aligarh Muslim University to allow undergraduate women students in Maulana Azad Library, the university's central library. The court has also sought a reply from the varsity's Vice Chancellor Zameeruddin Shah who had recently stirred a hornet's nest by not allowing girls into the main library saying that they would attract boys. Kulgam, Nov 14 (ANI): Security forces gunned down two militants after a prolonged encounter in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning. Acting on a tip-off, security forces launched a search operation at Chounigam village in Kulgam district to nab militants hiding in a house on Thursday evening. The militants opened fire upon the approaching soldiers, who retaliated triggering a gunfight. Later, the bodies of the militants were recovered from the house. Tens of thousands of people have been killed in two decades of anti-India insurgency in Muslim-majority Kashmir, which is divided between India and Pakistan by a ceasefire line. Nov 14, 2014

Kerala introduces water taxis to boost backwater tourism

Kochi, Nov 14 (ANI): The tourism minister of Kerala, AP Anil Kumar, launched water taxis and hop-on hop-off boat services to increase the potential of backwaters for state tourism. First of its kind in India, water taxis and boats were flagged off by Kumar in Kochi recently. As Kerala is surrounded by waterways, the services have been launched with the view to ensure the “last-mile connectivity” to tourist destinations, and lure more and more tourists to Kerala backwaters. The hop-on and hop-off boats are air conditioned with seating accommodation for 25 passengers at a time and they will ply at regular intervals. One buying a day’s ticket can travel in it for any number of times within 24 hours. The passenger can get into the boat from any boat jetty and can step down at whichever destination he wants where the boat travels. The Bombay High Court today stayed the decision of former Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan-led government's decision to give 16 percent reservation to Marathas in government jobs and educational institutions. The Congress-NCP government had made an announcement in this regard four months ahead of the assembly polls. According to reports, the high court has also stayed the state government's decision to provide five percent reservation to Muslims in public service, but allowed them reservation in educational institutions.
