Seventy-seven exotic turtles rescued in Vadodara

Vadodara, Feb 13 (ANI): Forest department in Vadodara city of Gujarat recovered 77 exotic turtles from a college student. Among the turtles recovered were endangered Star turtles and Singaporean Red Eared turtles. A case has been registered against Patel. A penalty of rupees 60,000 has been imposed on him. Saxena said the accused planned to smuggle the turtles in neighbouring Maharashtra state. Star turtles, which belong to 'very endangered species' category, are quite popular in exotic pet trade and are found in dry and scrub forests of India and neighbouring country Sri Lanka. RS Pura, Feb 13 (ANI): Stephens International School in Kulian area of RS Pura sector was vacated on Friday after the police got message of alleged militant activity in the school. All the students were immediately evacuated from the school and search operation was started by police. The nearby schools were also shutdown. A parent, Nirmal Singh said that the parents and children have panicked due to the rumor. New Delhi, Feb 13 (ANI): The Supreme Court of India on Friday (February 13) stayed the arrest of social activist in an alleged misappropriation of funds case till February 19. The court asked both Teesta and the Gujarat government to file relevant documents before it. The apex court ruling came after the Gujarat state High Court rejected Setalvad's anticipatory bail plea in the case. She is accused of embezzlement of funds collected on behalf of 2002 riot victims in Gujarat. In January 2014, police had registered a case against Setalvad, her husband Javed Anand and others for allegedly usurping rupees 15 million collected by them in form of donations for turning the colony into a riots museum.
