Storm kills one, displaces thousands in West Bengal

South Dinajpur, Feb 27 (ANI): A powerful storm flattened thatched houses and uprooted trees and electric poles in several villages in West Bengal. The storm accompanied by heavy rains hit Balurhat block of South Dinajpur. A man named Jatha Tudu, (35), resident of Vatpara village, died while several others got injured. An affected villager, Kamal Hasti, of Jalghar village said that they were inside their houses when the storm hit. Thousands of thatched houses were blown over in the powerful storm rendering more than 5,000 villagers of Jalghar and Vatpara homeless. The local administration has begun rescue operations.
