People in Trivandrum runs to create cancer awareness

Trivandrum, Jan 11 (ANI): Hundreds of people gathered in Trivandrum on Saturday to take part in a marathon to create awareness about the cancer disease and support the underprivileged cancer patients. Thousands of men, women and children participated in the annual run to raise the funds for the patients in the regional Cancer centre. The run started from Kanakakunnu palace in Trivandrum at 6.30 am. Theme for the marathon was to 'RUN FOR LIFE'. A participant, Ajith Kumar expressed sheer happiness and said youngsters as well as elderly were very happy to be a part of this run.

Babulal Gaur says less crime when women are 'fully-clothed', draws criticism

Bhopla/ Mumbai, Jan 11 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babulal Gaur yet again stirred up controversy after he said that crime against women is less in Chennai as they are "fully-clothed." It is not the first time when Gaur has made such remarks. Gaur was in limelight in 2013 also for condemning Western culture. Gaur attributed the low crime rate in South India to the full clothes worn by women and said that people in south are more religious because of which they have good relations between them and thereby the city witnesses less crime. During the inauguration of the Ayodhya Nagar Police Station on Thursday, he made this remark which brought criticism. Senior advocate and social activist Abha Singh condemned the statement and said that Gaur must apologise.

Aligarh, Jan 11 (ANI): AAP leader Kumar Vishwas on Saturday said that the people of Uttar Pradesh are fed up of the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, as they both elude from fulfilling promises after getting elected. Vishwas added that by doing so, they have created a space for a third party in the state. He further added that he is all set to take on Rahul Gandhi in Amethi during the next polls.

Newly elected Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina vows to end prevailing violence

Dhaka, Jan 11 (ANI): Following the victory of her party in the latest Parliamentary polls, Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, promised to take steps to end the violence prevailing in the country and to ensure the safety of the life and property of citizens. Bangladesh recently concluded elections that ended with Hasina's Awami League winning more than two-thirds of parliament seats. Addressing a rally in Dhaka, Hasina said that her ministers would take oath on January 12. Hasina also said that her government would end the culture of violence in the country. The polls were derided as a farce by the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), who boycotted the vote.

Politicians slam defensive stand of Akhilesh over extravagant Saifai Mahotsav

New Delhi/Lucknow, Jan 11 (ANI): Politicians have slammed the defensive remarks of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav over the extravagant fiesta in his hometown, Saifai, even as hundreds of miserable and homeless riot victims desperately struggle to survive the bone chilling cold in relief camps in Muzaffarnagar. The Samajwadi Party (SP) has drawn criticism for spending millions of rupees on its fortnight-long annual carnival 'Saifai Mahotsav'. Former leader from SP, Amar Singh, lashed at the chief minister and said instead of blaming the media he should have first introspected his own mistakes. BJP leader Suresh Rana, also denounced the chief minister’s stand and said it was in the habit of the party to lay blame on others. BSP leader Sudhindra Bhadoria, said the SP was showing sheer brazenness in continuing with its extravagant plans.

Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade arrives in New Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): The United States has informed that Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade, who returned to New Delhi on Friday, no longer enjoys immunity and an arrest warrant might be issued against her. As the Indian diplomat flew back within hours after the state department accorded her full diplomatic immunity, India, in a clear tit-for-tat action on Friday, asked the US embassy to send home a senior diplomat working as a counselor. Meanwhile, Devyani, who was at the centre of rift between India and the United States, thanked her country for the support. Father Uttam Khobragade met his daughter at the airport.
