It happens: Silk Exhibition

Visakhapatnam, Jan 10 (ANI): Businessmen held a colourful seven day silk expo in port city of Visakhapatnam on Saturday organised by the Silk Mark Organisation of India to boost the sales of the famed traditional south silk, also aiming at benefiting the weavers. The exhibition is expected to showcase the entire range of pure silk fabric from remote weaving clusters of India under one roof, which will have 64 participants from over 17 states across the country. From muted shades to bright hues, the expo offers a wholesome shopping experience. Indians have a flair for silk fabric and is widely used by designers for traditional as well as contemporary dresses. About 97 percent of the raw silk is produced in five major states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir. Jan 10, 2014

It happens: Birth Anniversary celebrations of Sikh's tenth guru

Patna, Jan 10 (ANI): Devotees from the Sikh community revelled in festive spirit, as thousands thronged Sikh house of worship, gurdwaras, across India on Tuesday to mark the 346th birth anniversary of their tenth guru, Guru Gobind Singh. Despite the bone chilling cold, devout Sikhs gathered at Takhat Patna Sahib in Patna city of India's eastern Bihar state to seek blessings from Guru Gobind Singh, where the tenth Sikh Guru was born in 1666. Every year, thousands of Sikh devotees from across the world also throng the most revered site, the Golden Temple, also known as Harminder Sahib in Amritsar city of northern Punjab province. Devout Sikhs were seen taking bath in the holy pond in the temple premises and offered prayers before the holy book. A procession was also taken out which is marked by the carrying of the Holy Scripture 'Guru Granth Sahib' in a decorated chariot. New Delhi, Jan 10 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 37.58 points up to stand at 20,750.95. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 3.10 points up to stand at 6,173.10. Muthoot Finance Ltd. and Godrej Industries Ltd. were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 6.82% and 3.80% along with United Spirits and Tech Mahindra with an increase of 3.16% and 2.89% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include MCX and Financial Tech with a decrease of 9.80% and 4.99% along with Federal Bank and Motherson Sumi with a decrease of 4.83% and 4.59% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is down 142.32 points at 11,939.01 while the banking sector is down 198.21 points at 12,333.92 and the realty sector is down 21.62 points at 1,347.84. New Delhi, Jan 10 (ANI): In a setback to private schools in Delhi, the High Court on Friday rejected a plea seeking stay on fresh nursery admission guidelines issued by the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. The petition was filed by Delhi School Association after Jung made some changes in nursery admission process and decided to put an end to the management quota following protests by parents. The petitioners argued that the order compromised the autonomy of private unaided schools in Delhi.
