Transparency International rejects AAP's claim on 'reduction in corruption' survey

New Delhi, Feb 18 (ANI): Global corruption watchdog Transparency International (TI) Executive Director Ashutosh Kumar Mishra on Tuesday rejected AAP's claim that corruption has come down in Delhi based on an 'unpublished report'. Former chief minister of national capital Arvind Kejriwal had claimed during a CII meet that he had come to know that Transparency International is set to release a report which says that corruption is down in the Delhi Jal Board. Mishra said that they have neither done any such survey, nor are they planning for the same. He also said that it is impractical as any such survey takes months. JandK village council leaders hail Rahul Gandhi for 73rd amendment

New Delhi, Feb 18 (ANI): Around 50 village council leaders from Jammu and Kashmir met Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi at his residence in New Delhi and hailed him for getting 73rd amendment of the Constitution approved by the cabinet in the Kashmir valley. The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference, Shafiq Mir said their struggle for getting the amendment approved has been possible only with the help of Gandhi. Reportedly, the 73rd amendment of the Constitution empowers the Panchayati Raj (village councils), a demand that has been pressed upon by Congress party and Gandhi himself. Visakhapatnam, Feb 18 (ANI): As many as 21 Maoist cadres surrendered before police and 5 other were arrested in Andhra Pradesh, said a senior officer in Visakhapatnam. The Superintendent of Police, Vikram Jeet Duggal, said five rebels were arrested also. The government has launched various schemes to lure cadres from Maoists fold. The Maoists say they are fighting for the rights of millions of landless tribal people. New Delhi, Feb 18 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Ninong Ering urged northeastern students to contact police, if they are harassed by people in New Delhi, in the wake of an alleged diktat by a local body. Ering said this after a kangaroo court (khap panchayat) in New Delhi took a decision on Sunday to force northeast people to vacate the Munirka locality in the national capital. When asked about what is being done by the provincial ministry to provide safety to the northeasterners in Delhi, Ering said a helpline has been started exclusively for them to register their complaints. In an outrage to the kangaroo court’s decision, the concerned citizens of Delhi met officials at a police station in Vasant Vihar area. Feb 18, 2014
