Italy disappointed over Supreme Court dragging marines case

New Delhi/ Kochi, Feb 18 (ANI): Italy expressed disappointment over Supreme Court’s decision on Tuesday to postpone the hearing in the case of Italian marines charged with the killing of fishermen, an incident that soured diplomatic relations between the two nations. Italian government's Special Envoy Staffan De Mistura, miffed at the court’s decision to postpone the hearing and to hold the case under the controversial Suppression of Unlawful Acts (SUA), expressed his dismay over the prolonged delay. He further said that there are four enemies of politics- Dynasty politics, Casteism, Communalism and Opportunism and Congress has all of these four. New Delhi, Feb 18 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday commuted the death sentence of three men convicted of killing former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to life in prison. The convicts, Santhan, Murugan and Perarivalan, had petitioned against their death sentence, arguing that there had been an exceptional delay in a decision on their mercy plea. A bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam delivered the judgement on the mercy plea. The Centre had earlier opposed the plea by arguing that the convicts did not go through torture, agony and dehumanizing experience during pendency of the mercy pleas.
