BJP on Mulayam to contest from Azamgarh to counter 'Modi effect'

New Delhi, March 19 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav will contest Lok Sabha polls from Azamgarh parliamentary seat along with his traditional Mainpuri seat. The move to field Mulayam from Azamgarh, a constituency dominated by Yadavs and Muslims which is near to Varanasi, is seen as an attempt to counter the BJP. It is said that by fielding Mulayam from Azamgarh, the party hopes it would have a cascading effect on other constituencies and would prevent the BJP from capitalizing on the "Modi effect." Meanwhile, the BJP said that SP is trying to polarize the society on communal issues but it will not succeed.

Congress on Indo-China war report

New Delhi, March 19 (ANI): The Congress on Wednesday defended itself after a section of the private Henderson Brooks report that critically reviewed India's defence preparedness and strategies during the 1962 war with China was released online by Australian journalist Neville Maxwell. The report discusses how the Army was ordered to challenge the Chinese military to a conflict it could only lose, according to Maxwell. Congress leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi said that India has the 4th strongest army and it has learnt a lot from history.

Police arrest two Maoists in Jharkhand

Gumla, Mar 19 (ANI): Police have arrested two Maoists working for rebel outfit People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) in Maoist affected Gumla district of Jharkhand. Acting on a tip off, police arrested the two Maoists from two different locations. Two pistols and three bullets were recovered from the rebels. Tuti said the two were planning to execute a crime, and the residents of the area helped in getting them arrested. Maoists are rebels who try to sink deep roots and form links after decades of neglect. They have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks.

Police arrest six militants, recover arms in Punjab

Patiala, Mar 19 (ANI): Police on Tuesday arrested six militants from Babbar Khalsa group in Punjab and recovered weapons from them. Addressing a news conference in Patiala district of Punjab, Senior Superintendent of Police, H.S. Mann, said that four weapons were recovered from the militants. According to reports, several cases are already registered accusing the arrested people.

Vladimir Putin calls PM Manmohan Singh to discuss situation in Ukraine

New Delhi, Mar 19 (ANI): Russian President Vladimir Putin called Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and discussed the evolving situation in Ukraine and recent referendum in Crimea, said foreign ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin. Defying Ukrainian protests and Western sanctions, Putin signed a treaty on Tuesday making Crimea part of Russia again but said he did not plan to seize any other regions of Ukraine. Singh, meanwhile, expressed his hopes that all sides would exercise restraint and work together constructively to find political and diplomatic solutions that protect the legitimate interest of all the countries and ensured long term peace and stability in Europe and beyond.

New Delhi, March 19 (ANI): Buzz is Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha has not only dubbed for the character 'Jewel' in the Hollywood film 'Rio 2' but also sang few lines for it. "I enjoyed dubbing for Rio 2 because it's such a fun film firstly and secondly because I felt like Imran and I were perfect for the characters of Blu and Jewel! There's a scene where Jewel is dancing and singing so they made me sing a few lines as well! I do not regret rejecting 'Queen, Ram-Leela': Kareena

New Delhi, March 19 (ANI): Bollywood diva Kareena Kapoor Khan says she does not regret refusing hits like 'Queen' or 'Ram Leela'. "I feel honoured and glad to give work to other people. I hope they (actresses) become stars as I have rejected big films," she said. When asked about her criteria for picking a film, Kareena said she wanted to be related to the project and big banner is secondary. "I am looking for films that I want to be part of something that excites me. I listen to about two stories a day but I am not going to say yes to anyone, no matter who it is. I don't think whether that person is big (filmmaker) or not. I will go by the script and that is more important for me and I have learnt that over the years," she said.
