Kolkata taxi drivers protest over teenager killed after double gang rape

Kolkata, Jan 06 (ANI): Taxi drivers in Kolkata staged protest demanding action against the double gang-rape and murder of a 16-year-old. Irate taxi drivers shouted slogans against the state government as they marched in a procession to register their anger and anguish at the gruesome incident. The girl was allegedly gang-raped twice in October and after two months of torment by the families of the perpetrators, she was murdered, according to police. Meanwhile, another protest rally was staged in the city on Sunday, by supporters of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) demanding security to be enhanced for women.

Manmohan Singh advocates reliability of print media over social media

Kochi, Jan 06 (ANI): Even as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh acknowledged the increasing influential role of social media in present times, he said that the "relatively static' print medium retained its relevance as it was “more credible and better informed." Singh was in Kochi on Sunday where he was inaugurating the 90th anniversary celebrations of Indian newspaper, 'Mathrubhumi'. Police kills two Maoists and injures five in Bihar

Jamui, Jan 06 (ANI): Police teams killed two Maoists and injured five during a counterfire operation in the Jamui district of Bihar. Superintendent of Police Jitender Rana said that police received information about the Maoists hideout, after which they launched a search operation by deploying various teams in different regions. Maoists are rapidly expanding their insurgency and could move from remote rural areas to cities.
