AAP replies to Election Commission notice

New Delhi, Nov 27 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday replied to Election Commission notice for Model Code violation by appealing to Muslims in Delhi for votes on religious grounds. Party Convener Arvind Kejriwal was served a notice by EC on November 20 after he distributed pamphlets asking Muslims to vote for AAP. Kejriwal denied violation of model code of conduct in his 37-page reply to Election Commission.

BJP hopes to sweep assembly elections in four of five states

New Delhi, Nov 27 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday hoped to sweep state assembly elections and defeat the Congress party in four of five states. The BJP also believes that they will form the central government in 2014 general elections. Voting is already over in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram. Rajasthan and Delhi will vote on December 01 and December 04, respectively. While addressing a news conference in New Delhi, BJP leader Arun Jaitley said that the results of the assembly elections would set the agenda for 2014 general elections. Meanwhile, Jaitley also accused the Congress party for relating internal security with vote-bank politics.

Muzaffarpur: Portion of rail over bridge falls on goods train, 6 injured

Muzaffarpur, Nov 27 (ANI): At least 6 people were injured when part of a flyover collapsed on a stationary goods train in Muzaffarpur town of Bihar on Wednesday. No casualties have however been reported. The incident happened in Maripur area of the town, 90 km from state capital Patna. The injured have been admitted to nearby Sadar Hospital. Kolkata, Nov 27 (ANI): Congress leader Pradip Bhattacharya on Wednesday said that West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s name has been exposed by Kunal Ghosh and therefore this case needs to be properly investigated. A 36-minute video of Rajya Sabha MP and suspended TMC member Kunal Ghosh caused embarrassment to the TMC after Ghosh directly linked chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool’s national general secretary Mukul Roy with the Saradha chit fund scam that has been rocking the state for the last eight months. The 36-minute video recorded earlier was broadcast on a local Bengali channel on Tuesday.

At least six killed in blasts near Kudankulam

Kudankulam, Nov 27 (ANI): Two powerful country-made bombs exploded in coastal village of Idinthakarai near Kudankulam nuclear power plant of Tamil Nadu killing at least 6 persons and critically injuring three others. The bombs were allegedly stocked by some villagers following a clash with another group. Three houses caved in due to the impact of the explosion. Police said that death toll could rise, as some of the people were feared to be trapped under the debris. Police and rescue teams reached the spot and rushed the injured to nearby hospital. According to reports, the blasts took place when bombs exploded accidentally while they were being assembled at a house in Idinthakarai village. A case has been filed against activist Udhayakumar, who fronted the lengthy local campaign against the Kudankulam plant.

Allahabad, Nov 27 (ANI): Stepping up its attack on Tehelka magazine editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday described rape of women as another form of terrorism. Tejpal, who has been accused of sexually assaulting a junior Tehelka colleague in a Goa hotel earlier this month, had on Monday filed a petition before the high court alleging that there was conspiracy behind the allegations of sexual assault, that the woman journalist was lying, and described the incident as a 'light hearted banter'.

Sankararaman murder case: Kanchi Sankaracharya, 22 others acquitted

Puducherry, Nov 27 (ANI): All the accused in the Sankararaman murder case including Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati have been acquitted by the Puducherry principal and district sessions court on Wednesday. The trial ran for over nine years. The court acquitted all the accused saying the complainant failed to support the prosecution. Sankararaman, the manager of the Varadarajaperumal temple in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, was allegedly murdered on September 3, 2004, in the temple premises. Sankararaman had allegedly written several letters to publications claiming that the Kanchi mutt had deteriorated ever since Jayendra Saraswati had taken over. He had also alleged misuse of funds in his letters, some of them to the pontiff himself.
