P Chidambaram presses for freedom of media

New Delhi, March 10 (ANI): Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Monday emphasized on the freedom of media for the interest of the nation while addressing the Delhi's unit of Kerala's union of working journalists in the national capital. He also called on media to do extensive research before reporting news after mentioning the example of a newspaper that ran incorrect news about Reserve Bank of India. He quoted United States Watergate scandal case as an example of proper research and verification of facts. He also mentioned about how dangerous the profession of journalism and the restrictions faced by the journalists today.

Pakistan remains silent on the issue of missing Baloch persons

Islamabad, Mar 10: After covering hundreds of miles on foot from Quetta to Islamabad, Mama Qadeer Baloch finally presented a memorandum to the UN country office in Islamabad. The document demanded an investigation in the issues of missing persons, target killings, enforced disappearances and involvement of agencies in heinous crimes in Balochistan. It also demanded a UN fact-finding mission to investigate mass graves and international standard DNA tests to identify bodies. Mama Qadeer is now waiting for answers.

Complete trial in cases involving MPs, MLAs within a year: SC to courts

New Delhi, Mar 10 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday set a deadline of one year for lower courts to complete trial in cases involving MPs and MLAs. The apex court ruled that trials in cases involving MPs and MLAs are to be conducted on day-to-day basis. The SC also said that the trial judge will have to explain to the Chief Justice of High Court if he fails to complete trial within a year of framing of charges.
