Congress vows to counter Maoist attacks

New Delhi, March 12 (ANI): Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, on Wednesday said that the government was committed and capable enough to counter the Maoist attacks. Surjewala condemned the Maoist attacks in Chhatisgarh that killed 16 security personnel involved in a mine clearing operation. Meanwhile, Congress leader lamented the attacks on soldiers and common citizens of the country.

SC asks Law Commission to define hate speeches

New Delhi, March 12 (ANI): Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Law Commission to look into the issue of hate speeches being made by political, social and religious outfit leaders and consider framing guidelines to regulate such provocative statements. The SC passed the order, in response to a PIL filed by NGO Pravasi Bhalai Sanghatan. Petitioner, Avinash Kumar Singh said that the hate speeches made by the political leaders are done to claim personal political gains. Singh also added that the PIL contains name of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leader Akbaruddin Owaisi.

New Delhi, March 12 (ANI): Days after extending his support to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, social activist Anna Hazare skipped a scheduled joint rally at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Wednesday citing ill health. Following Anna's last-minute withdrawal, Mamata addressed the Trinamool Congress rally alone. While addressing the rally she hit out at the BJP Congress and left. She said that CPM, BJP and Congress all tried to suppress her, but she won't be suppressed. She added that the BJP and Congress can together sell the country.

Politicos on Rift in AAP

New Delhi, March 12 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party leader Shazia Ilmi's refusal to contest from Rae Bareli against Congress President Sonia Gandhi has sparked speculation of a growing dissent within the Arvind Kejriwal-led party. The dissent is said to be around the ticket distribution for the Lok Sabha polls. Reportedly, there was speculation of Ilmi contesting elections from Rae Bareli. However, Ilmi cleared the air on a social networking site by tweeting "I am not contesting from Rae Bareli. I never agreed to nor do I now ... I've been denying this for the last two months." This has given rise to speculation of a rising rift within the AAP party with many of its leaders leaving the party or turning rebels. Adding to the speculation, Kumar Vishwas tweeted a poetic verse, which to many indicated a rift with the party. Vishwas, however was quick to clarify that he is not 'upset' with his party.
