Mumbai BEST drivers go on strike, commuters suffer

Mumbai, Apr 1 (ANI): Bus services remained disrupted in Mumbai as drivers and conductors go on strike on Tuesday in their protest against the new computerized scheduling system, leaving thousands of commuters stranded at the terminal. The transportation wing of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) operates a large number of bus lines in Mumbai.

State Dept says Powell's resignation as ambassador to India over Devyani row 'totally false'

New Delhi, Apr 1 (ANI): The US ambassador to India Nancy Powell has resigned and will leave her post in May. The move comes following a row between the United States and India over the arrest and brief jailing of an Indian diplomat, Devyani Khobragade, in New York on a visa fraud charge. Khobragade, an official in the New York consulate, was accused of underpaying her housekeeper and lying about it on immigration forms. She has left the US.

Uma Bharti says Modi is not a good orator, politicos react

Jhansi/Lucknow/New Delhi, Apr 1 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party’s outspoken leader Uma Bharti has said that party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is "not a good orator" and people go to his rallies to show support rather than listen to him. Bharti’s remark over Modi has welcomed reactions from various political parties. Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi agreed with Uma saying that Modi’s speeches have no substance. BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi clarified that Modi himself agrees that Atal ji was a good orator. Meanwhile former JD (U) leader Shivanand Tiwari praised Atal Bihari Vajpayee and said that there cannot be any comparison between him and Modi.

Chidambaram says would have fought against Modi if he knew Hindi, politicos react

New Delhi, April 01 (ANI): Politicos on Tuesday reacted on Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s statement that he would have fought against Narendra Modi’s ‘crony capitalism’ from Varanasi constituency if he knew Hindi language. BJP Spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said that Chidambaram should look at himself before commenting on others and that he knows Tamil language, so he should better contest from Tamil Nadu. Further, Former JD (U) Leader Shivanand Tiwari said that Hindi is a national language and it was not like Chidambaram had to speak in pure Hindi language for staging a rally in Varanasi.

LS polls: BJP fields Smriti Irani against Rahul in Amethi, politicos react

New Delhi/Amethi, April 01 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded actor-turned-politician Smriti Irani against Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi from Amethi Lok Sabha constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party also nominated Supreme Court lawyer Ajay Aggarwal against Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli. The decision on Irani and Aggarwal was taken at a meeting of the party's Central Election Committee in New Delhi. Top BJP leaders Narendra Modi, LK Advani, Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley were present at the meeting. Meanwhile, reacting over this AAP leader Kumar Vishwas said that Amethi was already fed up of an actor Rahul Gandhi who used to come, wave hands and go, and now an actress has come to cheat people. Congress too slammed the BJP for fielding Smriti against Rahul and said that there is crisis of political leaders in the party.

Sonia Gandhi and Rahul hate Hindus: Ramdev

Muzaffarnagar, April 01 (ANI): Yoga guru Baba Ramdev alleged that Congress President Sonia Gandhi, and her son Rahul Gandhi hated Hindus. Ramdev, who is very close to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said the ideology of Gandhis are similar to Congress party candidate Imran Masood, who had threatened to chop BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Ramdev, who has been spearheading a national campaign against black money and corruption, had strongly supported Modi wave in India. Ramdev has been touring India to garner votes for BJP after the party accepted his proposal to bring back black money stashed in foreign banks.

Narendra Modi need not apologise to satisfy a fake campaign: Jaitley

New Delhi, April 01 (ANI): BJP Senior leader Arun Jaitley said party’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has got a clean chit in Gujarat riots of 2002 and therefore does not need to be apologetic to any fake campaigners who are trying to spoil his image. Jaitley was interacting with foreign journalists in New Delhi as a part of the forthcoming elections’ campaign. Jaitley said this is propaganda by Modi’s enemies and thus he does not need to apologise. Meanwhile, speaking on India’s relations with Pakistan and infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC) last year, Jaitley said that if BJP came to power and any such acts are repeated by Pakistan, dialogue between the neighbours would definitely be affected.

Mayawati attacks centre for failing to curb corruption, poverty

Kolkata, April 01 (ANI): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati lashed out at Congress-led UPA Government over its failure to curb increasing rate of unemployment, poverty and corruption in the country. Addressing a rally in Kolkata, she criticized the central government, saying its schemes to decrease burden on the common man has failed. She also launched an attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and said that if Modi comes to power, the country would be 'forever gripped' in riots. BSP supremo also highlighted failures of the UPA Government, saying steps taken to tackle corruption did not show results.
