India and Georgia sign MoU for enhancing trade and economic cooperation

New Delhi, April 30 (ANI): The first session of the India-Georgia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological, Cultural and Educational Cooperation was held on April 29 in New Delhi, where both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote mutual interests. The Indian delegation was led by Dinkar Khullar, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) whereas the Georgian delegation was headed by David Jalagania, Deputy Foreign Minister. Deputy foreign minister of Georgia, David Jalagania at the India-Georgia Intergovernmental Commission thanked everyone for sharing ideas for the strengthening of ties and mutual interests.

Shutdown in Kashmir as crucial phase of election kicks off

Srinagar, April 30 (ANI): A shutdown was observed in Kashmir on Wednesday during the seventh phase of general elections in response to a call given by hard line Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and his moderate counterpart Mirwaiz Umer Farooq. Both separatist leaders reportedly asked the people to keep away from polling booths and not to vote for any of the candidates contesting the elections. Business establishments, schools and transport are closed and roads in the Kashmir Valley wore a deserted look. Security is heavily beefed up in the province which is giving the residents jitters. Several candidates, including National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah and opposition leader Tariq Hammed Qara are in the electoral fray for the Srinagar constituency.

Voting underway in seventh phase of LS polls

Ahmedabad/ Lucknow/ Amritsar/ Birbhum/ Jhansi, April 30 (ANI): Eighty nine Lok Sabha constituencies spread across seven states and two union territories went to polls on Wednesday morning amid tight security arrangements. Voting is also underway for 119 assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. Polling began at 7 a.m. and will continue till 6 p.m. However, in some sensitive areas of Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, the voting process will end at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively. Of the 89constituencies where polling is underway, 26 are in Gujarat, 17 in Telangana, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Punjab, 9 in West Bengal, 7 in Bihar and one each in Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
